#25 BRGY. RIVERSIDE, SAN PEDRO CITY, LAGUNA BASIC CALCULUS
SY. 2023 – 2024

GRADE: Eleven SEMESTER: 2nd Semester

SUBJECT TITLE: Basic Calculus NO. OF HOURS/SEMESTER: 80 hours/semester
PREREQUISITE/S: Pre-Calculus
SUBJECT DESCRIPTION At the end of the course, the students must know how to determine the limit of a function, differentiate, and integrate algebraic, exponential, logarithmic,
and trigonometric functions in one variable, and to formulate and solve problems involving continuity, extreme values, related rates, population models,
and areas of plane regions.
CULMINATING PERFORMANCE The learner is able to equip with basics and powerful mathematical discipline in learning about limits, derivatives, and integrals and also apply the
STANDARD concepts in a lot of situations, from the theoretical endeavor of proving a theorem, to the practical endeavor of calculating distance from one place to
another.

Performance Task: The learners will solve a puzzling scenario using the concepts of limits.

Situation: You are with a group of mathematicians and you are given a puzzling scenario:

A mountain climber wants to climb up a mountain that is 1,000 meters high. In the first hour, he climbed half the height of the mountain. In the second hour, he climbed half
the distance he climbed in the first hour. In the third hour, he climbed half the distance he climbed in the second hour.
Performance Task: You are tasked to determine whether the mountain climber will eventually be able to reach the peak of the mountain or not. If so, determine how many hours will he need to
reach the peak. If not, you must explain why. As a mathematician, you must be able to relate this to the concept of limits. You must create a report showing your
mathematical solution explaining the concept of the story and present an illustration of the scenario, a table or chart showing the distances, correct computations, and your
explanation and answer.

Learning outcome or task description for the output-based rubric.
