Deploy VM and Install EVE-NG
1. Create an account in Google Cloud
a. https://cloud.google.com/?authuser=2 2. Activate Cloud Shell (shell icon on the right top corner). a. This will take several minutes. Be patient. 3. From the Cloud Shell, paste this command to create the Compute Engine image: a. gcloud compute images create nested-ubuntu-focal --source-image- family=ubuntu-2004-lts --source-image-project=ubuntu-os-cloud --licenses https://www.googleapis.com/compute/v1/projects/vm- options/global/licenses/enable-vmx b. Authorize any prompt and/or, type “y” (yes) if required. 4. On the hamburger menu to the left (GUI), click on Compute Engine > VM Instances > Create Instance: a. The series will be N2, the machine type will be “n2-standard-8” (this can be modified later). b. Go to Boot Disk > Change > Custom Image i. Select “nested-ubuntu-focal”. ii. Boot disk type will be “SSD”. iii. Size will be 200 GB. c. Under Firewall, allow “http” and “https”. d. Create. 5. From the GUI, once the VM is created, click on SSH and run the following commands: a. sudo -i b. wget -O - https://www.eve-ng.net/focal/install-eve.sh | bash -i c. apt update d. apt upgrade -y e. reboot f. After 30 seconds, click on retry to SSH again. Once the VM comes back online, don’t do anything, and pay attention to step 6. 6. Click on the screen and issue “Ctrl + C”. a. Once you exit the password window, type “sudo -i”. 7. Enter the new password and then, keep clicking “ok” until the VM reboots. 8. On the hamburger menu to the left (GUI), click on VPC Network > Firewall: a. Click on the rule “default-allow-http” > Edit: i. Under Protocols and Ports, instead of “80” type “0-65535”. b. Go back to Firewall > Create Firewall Rule i. Name will be anything you want, lowercase. ii. Direction of traffic is “Egress”. iii. Action is “Allow”. iv. Targets is “All instances in the network”. v. Destination IPV4 ranges is “0.0.0.0/0”. vi. Specified protocols and ports will be “TCP” and “0-65535”. 9. Go back to Compute Engine > VM Instances: a. Copy the public IP of the VM and paste it into your search bar, like http://PUBLIC-IP/#/login b. The local credentials of the GUI are “admin” and “eve”. 10. Update and Upgrade:
a. sudo apt-get update b. sudo apt-get upgrade c. sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 11. Install and open tasksel a. sudo apt-get install tasksel b. sudo tasksel 12. A pink menu will appear, once that happens: a. With the “down” arrow, look for “Ubuntu Desktop” and once you find it, press the “space bar”. b. Make sure “Ubuntu Desktop” is selected (you will see a star/asterisk). c. Hit “Enter”. d. Once the packages have been installed, type “sudo reboot”. 13. Go to https://www.nomachine.com/ : a. Click on “Other operating systems”. b. Click on “NoMachine for Linux”. c. Right click on “Download” and then “Inspect” to see the embedded code behind the Download button. d. Right click on the highlighted portion and select Copy>Copy Element. e. Paste the element in Notepad and remove everything but the URL. i. Example: https://download.nomachine.com/download/8.4/Linux/nomachine_8.4.2_1 _amd64.deb f. Go back to the server and type “wget + PREVIOUS_URL”. g. Type “sudo apt install ./NAME_OF_THE_FILE. i. Example: sudo apt install ./nomachine_8.4.2_1_amd64.deb h. Create super user i. sudo -s ii. passwd ANYTHING i. Enable password access: i. Type “sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config” ii. Scroll down until PasswordAuthentication and make sure it says “yes”. j. Create new user for NoMachine: i. adduser USER. ii. Type the new password. iii. Hit Enter until it asks you if the information is correct, just type “y”. iv. Grant admin permissions to the new user. 1. usermod -a -G sudo,adm USER 2. reboot k. Download and Install NoMachine in your Personal PC. l. Once NoMachine is installed it, open it: i. Add a new connection, where the host is the Public IP of your VM. ii. Use the credentials of the USER previously created. iii. Adjust the display/resolution according to your needs. m. Shutdown the VM if you are not using it, avoid unnecessary charges.
