a. Write a note on grades of concrete and grades of steel. 5 5,6 1
b. Explain pure bending theory with neat sketch. 5 1 2
c. Define section modulus and find section modulus for 5 1,5,6 3
rectangular section.
d. Explain middle third rule. 5 4 3
e. What do you understand by boundary conditions of a beam? 5 3 2
State boundary conditions for different nature of beam
conditions.
f. Find maximum slope and deflection for a simply supported 5 3 4
beam of span 3m carrying UDL of 6 KN/m over entire span.
g. Write a note on materials used in concrete. 5 5,6 1

Q.2
a. A T-section is used as a simply supported beam for a span of 10 2 1,2,3,4
6m, the beam carries UDL of 10 KN/m over entire span.
Calculate maximum bending stresses induced. Take Top
flange = 150 x 20 mm, web = 20 x 80 mm, I = 1.9 x 108
mm4.
b. Find maximum shear stresses for the beam given in Q.No.2 5 2 1,3

a. A simply supported beam of span 5m carries point load of 60 10 3 1,2,3,4
KN at mid span. Find maximum slope and deflection in the
beam using Macaulay’s method. Take E = 2 x 105 N/mm2
and I = 2 x 108 mm4
b. Define slope and deflection with neat sketch. 5 3 1,2

a. A rectangular column 300 mm wide and 200 mm thick 10 4 1,2,3,4
carries a load of 160 KN at an eccentricity of 75 mm in the
plane bisecting the thickness. Find maximum and minimum
stresses.
b. Define direct and eccentric load. State the effect of eccentric 5 4 1,2
load with respect to stresses developed.
