Homework can be a daunting task for students of all ages.

Whether it's a simple math problem or a

lengthy essay, it can be difficult to find the motivation and energy to complete it after a long day of
school. That's why we've come up with some menu ideas to help make homework time a little more
enjoyable and manageable.

Brain-Boosting Breakfast
Start the day off right with a breakfast that will fuel your brain for a day of learning. Opt for foods
that are high in protein and healthy fats, such as eggs, avocado, and whole grain toast. Avoid sugary
cereals and pastries, as they can cause a mid-morning crash and make it harder to focus on
homework.

Snack Attack
It's important to refuel your brain and body throughout the day, especially during homework time.
Keep some healthy snacks on hand, such as fruits, veggies, and nuts, to give you the energy and
concentration you need to power through your assignments.

Brain-Boosting Beverages
Staying hydrated is key to maintaining focus and concentration. Instead of reaching for sugary
drinks or caffeine, opt for water, herbal tea, or green smoothies. These beverages will keep you
hydrated and provide essential nutrients to help keep your brain functioning at its best.

Power-Packed Lunch
After a morning of classes and homework, it's important to refuel with a nutritious lunch. Aim for a
balanced meal with protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Some ideas include a turkey
and avocado wrap, a veggie and hummus sandwich, or a quinoa and vegetable stir-fry.

Study Snacks
As the day goes on and homework assignments pile up, it's important to keep your energy levels up.
Keep some study snacks on hand, such as trail mix, energy bars, or homemade granola, to give you
the boost you need to keep going.

Dinner Delights
After a long day of school and homework, the last thing you want to do is spend hours in the kitchen
preparing dinner. Keep it simple with quick and easy meals, such as stir-fry, pasta with veggies, or
grilled chicken and vegetables. These meals will provide the necessary nutrients to keep your brain
functioning and give you the energy to finish up any remaining homework.

Remember, a well-fed and hydrated brain is a productive brain. By incorporating these menu ideas
into your daily routine, you'll be setting yourself up for success when it comes to tackling homework.

In addition to the homework menu, I give a short math practice page Monday - Thursday (except on
Wednesdays since they're choosing an activity from the menu). ELA Resources: 1st Grade ELA
Survival Kit! 2nd Grade ELA Survival Kit. Last, but not least, comes Thursday night where students
can select a dessert, or writing activity. Where was the choice in the worksheets I was sending home.
The first one is a secured PDF where I have typed in all of the boxes. When I first started teaching,
one of my greatest struggles was figuring out what to give for homework. So the option of pulling
ahead is there if they want it. Includes meaningful, rigorous choices for Reading, Writing, Spelling,
and Math. Gone are the days of families struggling to balance nightly homework with busy
schedules. The expectations and assignments get a little more difficult after winter break as well. At
the end of the month your students may have extra, incomplete tasks. October-May focus on helping
students acquire high frequency words. I was just wondering where do you get your ideas for the
tasks. Blank, EDITABLE Calendars that can be used for a multitude of purposes. When I grow up, I
have so much things to do, but only not to study. Some people use them as extra credit, others use
them as early finishers, homework for long weekends, work for those school year family vacations,
spring break and fall break work, or holiday homework. I think that in our modern world we have a
lot of homework and less time for fun. They complete the task on notebook paper and color in the
square on their Menu. I like my students to keep practicing the skills that were taught in the past. A
key component to our homework menu is the “other” section, where we encourage families to enter
valuable learning they do on their own (reading about animals at the zoo, discussion a mountain
habitat on a family hike, etc.). By and large, we have had rave reviews of the homework menu. It
goes out on Monday, comes back on Friday, and I will use a colored marker to indicate that I've seen
their 4 choices for the week. The main idea is for students to choose at least one activity from each
row of shapes. My students also read nightly and complete a short reading log. On Wednesday night,
the students get to choose an entree, or math activity. Report this resource to let us know if this
resource violates TPT’s content guidelines. There are examples of ways to practice these words at the
bottom of each Menu. Awesome job!!! Reply Delete Replies Reply Unknown July 9, 2013 at 5:02
PM This comment has been removed by the author. I don't want to teach a lesson in class and have
the students go home and practice it the wrong way if they did not understand the first time. Let's
just say I have had more POSITIVE emails, notes and comments from parents this year than I have
had negative notes in past years combined. We decided we wanted students to be reading every
night, so they can either choose a different activity each night, or do the same one more than once.
If you leave something nasty I'll hunt you down and karate chop you. Real talk. My computer has
spyware. I will add this option in the future but that is not something I will be working on anytime
soon. And they can do it on their own time, so they don't have to ever stay up late or wake up early
if they have a busy night. The students absolutely LOVE having a choice in what they select for
homework. Diane Fifth in the Middle Reply Delete Replies Reply A Basket Full of Apples
December 4, 2012 at 3:38 PM I love your homework menu idea. We also have a lot of families that
like to do more than the minimum required amount, so families have the option to do more or less
depending on what works for their family. Each Menu also includes weekly high frequency words (I
prefer to use Fry words, find more information HERE ). The expectations and assignments get a
little more difficult after winter break as well. We're always looking for ways to keep it REAL in our
classrooms! Where was the choice in the worksheets I was sending home. Blank, EDITABLE
Calendars that can be used for a multitude of purposes. Hi there folks - it's Lisa from Second Grade
Stories. I may need to change out some of the activities to fit our needs. The same rules apply to the
Calendars as previously stated with the Menus. This packet is extremely low prep and designed to
actively engage families in the learning process and reinforce kindergarten skills in a fun way. She is
already 17teen, and I understand her, if she doesn't want to do some task from geometry or other
boring stuff, and I actually can't help to her, because I'm not quite understand this subject, as well. I
also knew that it was important to make it editable for YOU. Want to get rid of homework altogether
but you are still required to assign it. I have monthly calendars, as well as two different weekly
calendar options for the entire year. These choices include academic skills, fine motor skills, life skills
and play. You will see a practice book log and an abbreviated Menu with simplified tasks. Some
people use them as extra credit, others use them as early finishers, homework for long weekends,
work for those school year family vacations, spring break and fall break work, or holiday homework.
In Kindergarten, the month of September focuses on letters and sounds and then students work with
5 high frequency words per week from October-May. Another important component of homework is
that it provides parents with the opportunity to measure their child's learning. My parents are aware
that my math homework is review, so they know to notify me right away if their child doesn't
understand. Awesome job!!! Reply Delete Replies Reply Unknown July 9, 2013 at 5:02 PM This

thoughtful, quality work. For an optimal experience, please switch to the latest version of Google
Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox. The first file is a secured PDF that
includes monthly and weekly homework calendars that are already done for you. Last, but not least,
comes Thursday night where students can select a dessert, or writing activity.

engage students by giving them a choice. The expectations and assignments get a little more difficult

This project has been in the works ALL summer, and I am beyond thrilled to have it finished. Delete
Replies Reply Reply Diane R November 12, 2012 at 5:31 PM I love the homework menu. Hi there
folks - it's Lisa from Second Grade Stories. I believe that in kindergarten and first grade homework
should consist of brief tasks connected to classroom learning. She is already 17teen, and I
understand her, if she doesn't want to do some task from geometry or other boring stuff, and I
actually can't help to her, because I'm not quite understand this subject, as well. The Spanish version
may have some English since my students do the work in English even though their parents prefer to
read Spanish. And they can do it on their own time, so they don't have to ever stay up late or wake
up early if they have a busy night. You may not post your edited version for free or for sale in any
marketplace. Did you just ask about adding differentiated tasks, tailoring it to your state or districts
pacing, editing it to suit your individual students needs. For writing we think of prompts that relate
to our writing genre we are studying, or seasonal prompts (fun!). You will be able to type into each
of the boxes to make this packet work for you. This can help I guess every one, who have problems
with exact sciences. I also wish there was a way to convert pdf to google docs in drive. Report this
resource to let us know if this resource violates TPT’s content guidelines. Most students were turning
in poor quality of work and doing the bare minimum. My parents are aware that my math homework
is review, so they know to notify me right away if their child doesn't understand. For example, on
Tuesday nights when students are choosing an appetizer, they are picking from a list of spelling
activities. Want to get rid of homework altogether but you are still required to assign it. I still want
my students to be able to enjoy activities outside of school, however, I feel that homework teaches
them responsibility, provides reinforcement of skills learned in class, and gives the parents a peek at
what we're learning. For these months there is also a pre-assessment which can be sent home so that
parents can focus on those words as well. Some want their child to work on a lot of homework,
while others get discouraged by one or two assignments. There are a variety of different menu
choices: with directions and free space embedded, with a free space embedded, blank with clip art or
blank with out clip art. I was just wondering where do you get your ideas for the tasks. A key
component to our homework menu is the “other” section, where we encourage families to enter
valuable learning they do on their own (reading about animals at the zoo, discussion of a mountain
habitat on a family hike, etc.). Of course there are always people who are hesitant to try something a
little outside the box, but by and large we have had rave reviews from our families about the
homework menu. We also have a lot of families that like to do more than the minimum required
amount, so families have the option to do more or less depending on what works for their family. In
this packet, you will find a zipped folder with two separate files.
