The CERDI, a joint unit of the Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA), CNRS and IRD,
offers five three-year PhD fellowships (2024-2027).

These three-year fellowships will start in October 2024, and their monthly net amount is 1,650 euros. The
CERDI offers good working conditions and a pleasant working environment. The research centre will
cover the costs of attending (at least) three conferences (one in France, one in Europe, and one in the Rest
of the World) during the PhD. PhD students have access to its library resources and services and the
UCA data centre. The CERDI and the UCA Doctoral School offer their PhD students a wide range of
services and training programs. The CERDI is committed to ensuring gender equality and diversity in its
recruitment process. Clermont-Ferrand is one of the best student towns in France for its quality of life.

The applicants are free to define their research within the framework of development economics and the
main research topics of the CERDI.

This year, the suggested topics are:

1. Development macroeconomics (public finance, monetary economics, exchange rate policies,
customs administration, natural resources and energy transition);

flows, geopolitical tensions and their consequences);
4. Environmental and ecological economics (deforestation, agricultural economics and adaptation to
climate change, mining and energy).

We might give particular attention to research projects that explore natural disasters and sustainable
development in line with the IRC2D and I-Site CAP 20-25.

Short-listed applicants to whom we are unable to offer a PhD fellowing might still enroll in our PhD
