Tutorial-1: Two-Port Network Analysis

1. Find parameter h11 for the below two-port network. (Ans. 0.5 Ω)

2. For the given bridged T- network, find the value of transfer impedance z21. (Ans. 3 Ω)

3. The z-parameters of the given network are z11=40Ω, z12=60Ω, z21=80Ω, z22=100Ω. Find the
average power delivered to RL=20Ω. (Ans. 35.5 W)

4. In a linear two-port network, when 10 V is applied to Port 1, a current of 4 A flows through Port
2 when it is short-circuited. When 5 V is applied to Port 1, a current of 1.25 A flows through a
1Ω resistance connected across Port 2. When 3 V is applied to Port 1, what will be the current
(in Ampere) through a 2Ω resistance connected across Port 2? (Ans. 0.545 A)

(Hint: Use ABCD parameters first equation to obtain I2. See A and B are directly can be obtained
by given information. )

5. The two-port network P shown in the figure has ports 1 and 2, denoted by terminals (a, b) and
(c, d), respectively. It has an impedance matrix Z with parameters denoted by Zij . A 1Ω resistor
is connected in series with the network at port 1 as shown in the figure. Find the impedance
matrix of the modified two-port network (shown as a dashed box).

6. Two passive two-port networks are connected in cascade as shown in figure. A voltage
source is connected at port 1.

(A1, B1, C1, D1) and (A2, B2, C2, D2) are the ABCD parameters of network-1 and-2 respectively.
If the Thevenin equivalent circuit at port 3 consists of a voltage source VT and impendence ZT,
connected in series, then obtained their expressions in terms of V1 and given network
parameters.

7. For the lattice circuit shown in figure, Za=j2Ω, Zb=2Ω. Find the open-circuit impedance (z-
parameters) parameters.

8. The short-circuit admittance matrix of a two-port network is

𝟎 𝟎. 𝟓
[ ]
−𝟎. 𝟓 𝟎

The two-port network is

(a) Non -reciprocal and passive (b) Non-reciprocal and active

(c) Reciprocal and passive (d) Reciprocal and active

Answer: (b).
Since, 𝑦12 ≠ 𝑦21 so the network is nonreciprocal. And active networks are nonreciprocal.

9. Find out parameter h21 for the 2-port network as shown in the blow figure. (Ans.-0.5)

10. Find Z12 and Z21 for the following two-port network. (Ans: 0 and –βr0 )

11. In the circuit shown below, the network N is described by the following Y matrix:
