Goal
Look for compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences in a published news
article.

You are an English enthusiast and would like to practice what you have just learned in your
English class about different sentence types.

Your audience will be your teacher and classmates.

Situation
The challenge involves choosing a news article that interests you and still contains all
varieties of sentence types according to structure.

Product, Performance, and Purpose


1. Cut and paste the article into a short bond paper.
2. Encircle or highlight all the conjunctions used.
3. In a writing pad, copy the ten sentences each of compound, complex, and
compound-complex.
4. Write a summary of the article under the cited sentences.
5. Print parts of your finished product on short bond paper, size font 12,
double-spaced.
