DPM 27 (Solutions)

C to E

C. RC Passage

Answer keys : 1 – B , 2- A , 3- D , 4-C , 5-B

Explanation:
1) Refer to para 3 – the author gives the example of sonogram and selective abortion to
show that population level effects can result from individual choices.( There are
precedents…).Choice B is the answer.

2) Refer to para 2, especially the first, third and last sentences which validate choice A.

3) The question posed at the beginning is ‘ Will human nature be altered by genetic
engineering?’ and the last two paragraphs suggest that human nature will be changed
even by the first three stages of development in biotechnology ( genetic engineering
being the fourth stage).Choice D

4) Statement (a) is false. The passage does not make such a categorical statement( bound
to become) – it is qualified by ifs and buts.
Statement (b) is true from the last paragraph.
Statement (c ) is false- again a categorical statement not made in the passage. It is
negated by the first and fifth sentences of para 2.
Statement (d) is true- last para concluding line.
Statement (e ) is true. Genetic engineering is the 4 th stage and still a long way off.(
Penultimate and second paras ). So b ,d ,e are true. Hence, choice C.

5) Choice A is not the answer because the author does not feel it is foolish to rush into
genetic engineering. Choice C is wrong because the author does not ask us to tread
carefully in the new region. Choice D is not the answer because the passage is not
about change in general. Choice B can be the answer because we do not know all the
implications of genetic engineering but its potential is so great that the risks may be
worth taking.

Soln.1
Let the distance covered be S. and S = A + B, where
A 𝛼 t  A = K1t, B𝛼 t2 B = K2t2
So, S = K1t + K2t2 When t = 5sec, S = 100 m
100 = K1 x 5 + K2 x 5 100 = 5K1 + 25K2
2
20 = K1 + 5K2 ………… (1)
When t = 6sec, S = 138 m
138 = K1 x 6 + K2 x 62138 = 6K1 + 36K2 23 = K1 + 6K2 ………… (2)
Solving (1) and (2), we get K1 = 5, K2 = 3
So, S = 5t + 3t2
For t = 20sec, S= 5 x 20 + 3 x 202 = 1,300 m Choice (B)

Let the number of employees be 90
Women Men
30 60
15 women are married and 5 of them have children
45 men are married, and 30 men have children.
Totally 35 employees have children and 55 do not have children.
55/90 of the employees do not have children. i.e. 11 / 18 of the employees don't have children.
Answer is 11.

Soln.3.

Let Ajit and Ajay start at A and run towards B.

If Ajit runs at a speed v then Ajay's speed is 5v. Now Ajay overtakes Ajit four times by the time
Ajay does one round (at B, C and D and at A, the starting point)
Now, at B, C, D Ajit’s tokens double and they will halve at A. Ajit starts with 1 token. In the first
round, Ajit's tokens become 2 at B, 4 at C, 8 at D and 4 at A. Similarly, after another full round,
Ajit has 16 tokens. Say the race lasts for n rounds. Ajit will have (4) n tokens totally of which (4n -
1) are what Ajay gave. So, If Ajay has N tokens initially, N- (4n-1) are left with him, which is 246.
N = 246 + (4n– 1) trying n = 1, 2, 3 etc we get n = 4,
N = 501 fits the choices.
Choice (B).

Solutions for questions 4 and 5:

4. Let the first tap fill the cistern in t minutes. Then the second tap alone will fill the cistern in 3/2t
(Since rate is 2/3 times). The total rate of the first two taps is 5/3 times the rate of the first tap.
Therefore, the first two taps can fill the cistern in 0.6t minutes.
The first three taps will take 0.6 (0.6t) = (0.6)2t
[Imagine the first two taps as a single tap that takes t 1 minutes then the next tap takes 3t 1/2 min.
and hence together the tap takes 3/5t 1 = (3/5) (3/5) (t min)]
Given (0.6)9 (t) = 1  t= (5/3)9
Time taken by 6 taps, t6 = (3/5)5t = 1 x (5/3)4 = 625/81
Similarly, Time taken by 5 taps t5 = (3/5)4t = 3125/243
If the 6th tap alone takes t’6 min., then
1 1 1 1 1 1 81 243 162
𝑡5
+ 𝑡 ′ = 𝑡  𝑡 ′ = 𝑡 − 𝑡 = 625 − 3125 = 3125
6 6 6 6 5

47
𝑡6′ = 19
162
Choice (D).

5. Given the total time taken by 10 taps is 1 minute (0.6)9 x t = 1

Now the time taken by 7 taps would be (0.6)6 x t =
0.66 5 5 5 125 17
0.69
= 1×3×3×3 = 27
= 4 27 Choice (A).

Through D, we can draw lines parallel to BE intersecting AC at P and another line parallel to CF
intersecting AB at Q.
In Triangle CEB, CР/PE= 3/2, In triangle ADP, PE/AE = 2/1

Now, In triangle BCF, BQ/QF = 2/3, In triangle AQD, QF/AF = 2/1
 AF:FQ: QB = 3:6: 4 orAF: BF = 3: 10Let AE = b. Therefore EC = 5b and Let
AF = 3c. Therefore BF = 10c

(𝐴𝐹 2 ×𝐴𝐸)+(𝐵𝐹 2 ×𝐸𝐶) 9c²b + 500c²b

(𝐴𝐹 2×𝐸𝐶)+(𝐵𝐹 2 ×𝐴𝐸)
= 45c²b + 100c²b
= 509/145 Choice (B).

Given: p and q are the roots of x² - ax -1 = 0; p + q = a and pq = -1.
Further r, s are the roots of x2- bx - 1 = 0; r + s = b and rs = -1
Now (r + p) (s +p) (r - q) (s - q) = (r + p) (s - q) (s + p) (r - q)
= [rs + ps - rq – pq] [sr + pr - sq - pq]
[-1 + ps - rq + 1] [-1 + pr - sq + 1]

The 6 - digit number N = ababab = ab (10101) = ab (3) (3367) = ab (3) (7) (481) = 3(7) (13) (37)
ab = (111) (91) ab. Therefore, all such numbers are multiples of 111. Now if a = 0,
we would get a 5-digit number. Therefore, a can have 9 values and for each such value, b can
have 10 values. Therefore, there are 90 numbers of the required form.

Solution for the questions 1 to 4:

From (ii) and (iii), we get Bhargav, David, Jacob, Mukesh and Abhinav stay in the same row.
Similarly, Charan, Nayan, Kevin, Gregory and Emmanuel stay in the same row.
From (i), Black and Pink are opposite.
From (iv), Bhargav and Mukesh are adjacent to each other.
From (vii), Charan is diagonally opposite Abhinav's house.
From (ix), Red and White are adjacent to each other and the Red coloured building is opposite
the Orange coloured building.
From the above data, we get the following arrangement.

1. Charan is staying in the Pink coloured building. Choice (B).

2. Either Violet or Indigo coloured building is opposite the Yellow coloured building. Choice (D).
3. Emmanuel is staying in the Green coloured building is definitely true. Choice (D).

4. Colored of the building in which George staying Indigo or Violet. sChoice (D).
