1 Getting Started

Introduction

It's necessary to have a brief idea about this PARIS GC software

before you get it into full swing. The knowledge offered here will
help you better understand and operate this system.

In this chapter

PARIS GC User Guide 1-1

Getting Started

Overview

PARIS GC provides a low-cost platform for health imaging

management and patient/study data administration in the hospital.

The design of this software platform makes it possible to be an

open interface between health imaging applications and easy
access to other modalities made by KODAK or third parties.

The platform runs on a Microsoft® Windows® operation system.

Depending on the product configuration, it can run under either
Windows 2000 Server system or Windows 2000 Professional
system.

Modes

PARIS GC is composed of 3 main working environments: the

Technician Mode, the Radiologist Mode and the Administrator
Mode.

The Technician Mode is designed for technicians to query for

patient/study records, enhance the digital health images, perform
printing layout and management and archiving.

The Radiologist Mode is designed for radiologists to diagnose on

the digital health images, make various graphical annotations and
image enhancements.

The Administrator Mode is the same as the Radiologist Mode

except it has an extra function: System Admin.

1-2 PARIS GC User Guide

Getting Started

Configuration

PARIS GC system has three basic collaboration modes:

STANDALONE MODE

Under this simplest system configuration mode, the server and the
client work on one machine. So only one user can have access to
this system at any given time. The standalone mode provides the
radiologist Department with a simple and easy-to-use digital
health imaging management platform.

STANDARD MODE

Under this mode, the server application runs on a separate server

PC while the Client applications can run on several other PCs with
data shared through effective network for multiple users.
Modalities, output devices and various systems can be connected
as one working environment. As a recommended running mode,
the standard mode provides a workgroup-level digital health
imaging management platform that can suffice for the daily needs
of a hospital with such scale.

EXTENSION MODE

An extension to the standard mode. Under this mode, the server

application can run on several server PCs and the client
applications can run on more PCs through complicated network
connection. Much more users can access to the system at the
same time and much more modalities, output devices and other
systems can be integrated. The extension mode entitles the
system the flexibility to expand with the scale and volume
development of the radiologist department.

2 Worklist

Introduction

The Worklist consists of two parts: the Patients List and the
Studies List. From the patient record to final image files there
exists such a hierarchy: Patient-->Study-->Series-->images. Each
level can be followed by several sub-levels.

As one of the operation panels, the Worklist can be opened or

Loading Images

All digital health images are grouped in Study.

NOTE: Before loading images into the Image Preview Area, you
need to check the status of the study. If the status is "Offline",
make it "Online" by restoring images from the backup CDR. If an
image is at “Nearline” status, this image is stored on hard disc in
compressed format. So it will take some time to extract it out for
loading.

Online/Nearline Images

You have three ways to load images:

„ Find the patient and select one study, and then click Load
Image or Load Key Image; or
„ Double-click the study record; or
„ Double-click one of the related series records (to load images
in that series only.)
NOTE: Press CTRL or SHIFT key when clicking to select multiple

Offline Images

Since offline images are stored in CDs, the worklist will notify you
about this and send a CD-reading request to the system. And the
archive administrator needs to open System Operation Panel on
the archiving workstation to extract requested images from CD
(For details please see "CD-reading Job List" on page 3-16). Then
continue as onine images.

Data Conformity Rule

Here is to set the data conformity when reading patient records.

The options in the Mark frame are used for data conformity
comparing when loading records. The Patient ID is the default
comparison mark and cannot be unchecked. On the basis of it,
you may add up to 4 additional comparison marks: Patient Name,
Date of Birth, Patient Age, and Patient Gender. For example, there
exists in the systen a patient named Jack whose ID is 001. Now a
new patient named Mark with a same ID 001 is to be loaded in. In
this case, if no other comparsion marks are checked, the system
will deem the new record as a duplicate record. But if you check
the “Patient Name” mark, the system will take patient name into
comparison account too. Thus the loading data will be deemed as
a new record instead of a duplicate.

The options in the Verification frame are used to decide whether

to overwrite the data of selected items in case of duplicate records.
Of cource those fields selected as comparison mark are free of
verification.
