Management of Functional Safety

 Is solely aimed at the achievement and maintenance of the functional
safety of SIS and is distinct from general H&S measures necessary for
the achievement of safety in the workplace.
 Addresses all activities and its responsibilities of SIS safety life-cycle
phases from initial concept, design, implementation, operation and
maintenance through to decommissioning to ensure the functional
safety requirements and safety integrity requirement are met.
 Provide the framework to manage the failures, especially systematic
failure, effectively by competent people, proper procedure, and
adequate documentation to achieve the acceptable level of functional
safety.

 How to upgrade an existing Management
System to confirm to IEC 61511
 Create a new responsible organization to conduct the functional safety management
and designate one or more personnel to lead the FSM and FS activities.
 Assign clear Roles and Responsibilities for each SIS SLC activity.
 Integration of FSM into an existing Management System (e.g., ISO45001, ISO9001).
 Train the organization, personnel on IEC61511 to make them competent and
maintain the learning environment.
 Perform a gap analysis between existing activities and SIS SLC requirement by
competent person(s).
 Develop FS related procedures and FS Plan.
 Performs SIS SLC activities such as proof test, operation and maintenance, bypass
management, training, etc. and maintains documentation for each activity.
 Conduct FSA and FS Audit to continual improvement of FSMS.
