Overview / Description of course


In this course, we understand and master the research methodology used in computer science.
The course will cover topics ranging from the principles of experiment design, statistics, to
various aspects of reading, writing, evaluating papers, and presenting research. There will be
assignments during the semester allowing the students to practice different research skills and
methodologies covered in the lectures. There will be a semester-long project in which students
select, design, and execute research project and present the result at the end of the semester.

Objectives
The objectives of this course is to;
1. The course equips students with the skills to review and conduct methodologically
sound research as a part of their professional work.
2. Students develop the skills to recognize and reflect on the strengths and limitations
of different research methodologies,
3. understand the links between theory and practice, critically assess research, and
address ethical and practical issues.
4. Demonstrate, by use of role model examples, how research can help support
leadership and better decision making within the community and in the public and
private sectors.

5. Critically evaluate the efficacy of virtual means of delivering or developing research


strategies

research approaches and methods
