Miraculous Markets
Flik Silverpen’s Guide to Miraculous Markets (FSG 19) is a collection detailing four
unique places to purchase (or barter for) magical food.
The markets in this guide are easy to insert into any adventure as a way for the
players to spend some money, stock up on some questionably helpful items, and
interact with some weird NPCs. The magic food in the guide doesn’t need to be
attached to their respective markets either. They can be individual quest rewards,
on the menu of a regular old inn, or random loot.
Each item has a simple description to explain its intended effect. It should be easy
to adapt the description into straightforward mechanics for whatever fantasy
TTRPG you are playing.
Take note! It’s helpful to read through each menu before presenting the market to
your players. There are some considerably powerful magical effects listed in this
guide. If an item is too potent, detrimental, or will ruin the fun of the players, don’t
include it in the market’s menu. If the effect is rolled randomly, choose another
option or roll again.
This guide is intended to be a helpful resource for your table. Have fun!

The Perfect Pack
For adventurers in the know, the Perfect Pack is a sought after hole-in-the-wall
(a literal hole in the wall!) located in the back alley behind the Crossroads Inn
and Tavern. This unusual canteen is run by Nicky, short for Finicky, who sells
carefully-crafted, long-lasting meals to experienced travelers.

Two decades ago a group of courageous adventurers rescued Nicky from

a damp, smelly dungeon when he was about to be eaten by an enormous
bugbear. Now, his life’s mission is to create delicious eats that will help keep
brave dungeon delvers alive.

Despite his surly tone and rattish appearance, Nicky takes great pride while
preparing his delicious and helpful recipes. Each dish is expertly presented,
tastes great, and is wrapped in a special magically sealed cloth that keeps it
fresh for months at a time.

3
Agast’s Trifles and Trinkets
The quaint shop previously known for its splendid and peculiar magical trinkets is
currently regarded as an “enter at your own risk” confectionery.
Some months ago, Agast, a generally frazzled and distracted wizard, accidentally
miscast a location spell and turned her entire inventory into desserts. Amulets became
cookies, statuettes became tarts, rings became fritters, boxes became sweet custards,
belts and bags became cakes, and candles became those little biscuits you dip in tea.
The whole thing is quite a mess, but ever the optimist, Agast has rebranded and stayed
open for business.

But here’s the catch, all of the curious confections have maintained their original
magical properties. So, that gold bracer that used to shoot a blast of white hot fire, well
now it’s a jam filled pastry. Take a bite and YOU shoot a blast of white hot fire.

To exacerbate the problem, Agast inventory wasn’t organized, so she has no clue which
desserts used to be which trinket. If you purchase a treat from the wizard you are
taking a gamble on what magical effect it might have. Some are powerfully beneficial,
while others are horribly detrimental.

Every dessert in the shop is labeled to cost 10 gold pieces each, but because business is
down, Agast is eager to cut a deal, especially for multiple purchases.

Nosher’s Monster Grill
After a long day’s travel you might catch a smoky, spicy aroma on the air. It leads you
off the well trodden road to an inconspicuous wooden cart, Nosher’s Monster Grill.
Inside a skeleton hunches over a hot grill, cooking up a variety of rare monster parts.

Nosher isn’t the most verbose (he doesn’t have a tongue) but his jaw clicks and clacks
as he enthusiastically waves potential customers over. He points at a hastily written
menu of fairly priced fare that suits the most daring of diners.

Nosher gleefully chops, sizzles, flips, slices, fries, and garnishes some truly out-there
eats (he gets most of his ingredients from Bru’s Beastie Bits - See Flik Silverpen’s
Guide to Unscrupulous Emporiums FSG 11).
If the adventurers are brave enough to try Nosher’s monster parts, they’ll be
rewarded with an invigorating meal with some interesting side effects. The
monstrous meals must be eaten straight away because once the grub gets cold, it
spoils quickly.

When the adventurers have had their fill, Nosher waves a boney, but grateful hand as
his cart rises up on two giant bird legs and stomps off into the wilderness.

Libation Statue
These strange statues are scattered across the land and can be found in the most
unusual places. In the middle of a town square, in a deep underground cave, or even
on top of a centuries-old tree. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason where
these potion-providing statues appear.

When an adventurer places an object in the statue’s outstretched hands, it

disappears in a puff of smoke, and is replaced with a mysterious elixir.

Some scholars believe the statues to be other-wordly bartering stations between

mortals and deities. They explain that potions received from the statue are a result
of sacrificing valuable or sentimental items to gain the favor of the deity that rules
over the items domain. Sacrifice a powerful weapon and receive a draught blessed by
The Champion. Hand over a pouch of gold coins and you might be blessed with a tonic
from Aureate or Pick the Trickster.

More skeptical observers believe the statue’s potions are simply snake-oil
concoctions or worse, the result of dark sorcery. The potions’ effects are too
unpredictable to be blessings from a benevolent higher power.
