students can learn to round with rules, but they usually won’t be able to apply their learning to new

You're only interested in the tenths digit (that's the first number after the decimal point) when
rounding to the nearest whole. We typically begin rounding in 3rd grade, and I’d start right in with
the number lines. Pack your math practice time with fun by counting objects in patterns. Put your
