Basic Cal

The document discusses continuity of functions, including definitions of continuity and discontinuity. It defines three types of discontinuities: removable, jump, and infinite discontinuity. It also discusses continuity on an interval and the three conditions that must be satisfied for a function to be continuous on an interval: 1) the function value at a point must exist, 2) the limit as x approaches c must exist, and 3) the limit must equal the function value. Examples are provided to illustrate each concept.

DISCUSSING CONTINUITY OF FUNCTIONS AND CONTINUITY ON A

INTERVAL

In our past lesson we discussed about limits, since we have already a general idea on
the basic fundamental. In this lesson were going to discuss about all about. As we
have observed in past discussion and modules about limits in our last lesson. There
are functions whose limits are not equal to the function value at x = c, meaning,
f(x) 6 f (c)

Definition of terms:

Continuous - Continuity for a point exists when the left and right sided limits
match the function evaluated at that point. For a function to be continuous, the
function must be continuous at every single point in an unbroken domain.
Kung saan we don’t lift our pen when graphing

Discontinuities - The points of discontinuity for a function are the input

values of the function where the function is discontinuous.

Function - A function is a relation where there is only one output for every
input. In other words, for every value of x, there is only one value for y.

Note:

Limit of f (x) approaches a is NOT NECESSARILY same as f (c)

(Ang ibig sabihin nito ay ay ang limit ng f of x ay hindi parehas sa f of c dahil

magkaiba sila para hindi ka malito).

Conditions
As we go to further and trying to understand the lesson about Basic
calculus. The topic is all about Continuity of Functions. We may say a
function f(x) is said to be continuous at x = c if the following conditions are
satisfied, where in we have:

a) f(c) exists

b) lim f(x) exist

x -> c

c) lim f(x) = f (c)

(Mayroong tatlong condition para masunod para masabi continuous ang

isang function sa isang number, so dito na natin I aapply nung natutunan
natin last lesson).
If one or more of these three conditions fails to hold at a, the function f is
said to be discontinuous at c.

According to this condition Kailangan natin magkaroon ng isang function

for example si f (x), then we aslo need something to consider on tulad ng c
na number any constant. Then therefore pag nameet lahat na tatlo masasabi
na continuous siya, if isa lang ang nameet then discontinuous at that number
c.

3 TYPES OF DISCONTINUITIES
REMOVABLE

A. REMOVABLE DISCOUNTINUITY

This discontinuity happens pag may hole ang graph sa isang function,
mareredefine ang function re-remove the discontinuity and pag
indeterminate for example zero divided zero .

Example 1

And its
indeterminate
so therefore
it’s a
removable
function

Example 2

Example 3
Non removable

B. Jump discontinuity
Yung function natin ay mayroong jump discontuinity, nangyayari to stops
and jump in another point. Kailangan pang humakbang and jump in another
graph..

Example 2
Jump
Discontinuity

C. Infinite discontinuity or Essential

- In this type of discontinuity least one of the two limits infinite. Meron
tong vertical asymptote.

- Logarithmic

-csc, sec, tan, cot.

Continuity on an interval

Another topic we are gonna be talking about is the Continuity of Functions

on an Interval. This is where the function is smooth and has no breaks, jumps,
or holes within that interval. For a function to be continuous on an interval, it
needs to be continuous at every point within the interval, including the
endpoints. This means it would smoothly connects all points without any
disruptions or discontinuity. In getting to know if its gonna be continuity of
functions on a interval , were going to base it in the first text read and we if
it a condition (The three conditions above) if were going to determine if its
continuous or not.

Let us not forget that continuity is not just about solving or identifying we
almost look and analyze the problem carefully in each step. Every steps
should be checked very well, since when the computation is wrong, this
would lead into a different way making your answer wrong like a butterfly
or domino effect, like for example doing the graph wrong.Analyzing it also
helps you quickly in going with the flow of computing the problem.

Study advice:
1.Establish your base: Know the essential terms that will serve as a foundation for
your comprehension of continuity.
2.Draw imaginatively: Make a stronger link to the ideas of continuity by illuminating
it with graphs by using symbolab.
3. Try practice solving to develop your problem-solving skills.
As a learner advice
1. Tech as your ally: Make intelligent use of graphing tools to ensure consistency and
improve your conceptual understanding. (Use symbolab) try different website or
resource material to basically understand the lesson. Ask your teacher about the topic
