K: /17 T: /11 C: /10 A: /14

General Instructions: Answer the problem correctly.

Full Answer Questions: Write detailed steps to solve the problems. You will lose marks if
you only present an answer.

1. Selia likes to listen to blues, country, and hard rock music. The table shows the songs loaded
on her MP3 player.

Selia’s player is set to random shuffle, which means that the player randomly plays a song.
What are the odds in favour of the player randomly playing a hard rock song? (K: 1 T: 1)

2. What is the probability of randomly drawing an ace or a red card from a standard deck of
playing cards (52 cards)? (K: 2)
3. Consider the bag of marbles below. (K: 2 C: 2 A: 2)
a) What is the probability of selecting a green marble following by another green marble if
the first marble is not replaced?
b) How does this answer change if the first marble chosen is replaced?
c) Explain why these answers are different.

4. In how many ways could a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer be elected from a
condominium board that has 8 members? (T: 1 A: 1)

5. To get to school, you travel six blocks west and four blocks south. Determine the number of
routs you could take to school. (T: 1 C: 1 A: 1)
6. A group of 4 people is chosen from 4 men and 5 women. What is the probability that there are
at least two men in the group? (K: 1 T: 2 A: 1)

7. Calculate the expectations of the following two distributions. (K: 2 T: 1 C: 1 A: 1)

a) Selecting a card four times, with replacement, from a standard deck, and recording the
number of diamonds.
b) Selecting four cards at the same time, from a standard deck, and recording the number of
diamonds.

8. You are conducting a survey about your school. (K: 3 T: 1 C: 4 A: 2)

a) What sample methods will you use? Describe how you will use it.
b) What are the requirements about the questions you ask?
c) What types of data will you collect? Give at least two types, and one example for each
type.
d) What types of bias do you need to avoid? Give at least two types. Describe how you
could keep the data free of bias?
9. onsider the following measurement data. (K: 4 T: 2 C: 2 A: 2)
4, 5, 2, 7, 10, 12, 11, 11, 13, 15, 9, 8, 10, 7, 19, 22, 15, 14, 16, 12
a) Calculate the mean, median, mode, and range.
b) The standard deviation of the data is 4.85, what is the variance?
c) Calculate the quartiles and interquartile range.
d) Is there any value(s) in the data set that could potentially change the outcome of the
measures of central tendency? Explain.
e) Create a box and whicker plot of the data.
10. When the ketchup dispenser at a fast-food restaurant is completely depressed, it dispenses
a mean of 15 mL of ketchup with a standard deviation of 0.75 mL. Assuming that the
distribution is normal, what is the probability that a hamburger will receive less than 14 mL of
ketchup in one complete press? (K: 1 T: 1 A: 2)

11. A mail order company is planning to deliver small parcels using remote-controlled drones
direct to households within 10 km of its warehouses, each located in a large city. As a test,
drones delivered 500 parcels. A total of 420 parcels were delivered within the advertised time
limit of 30 min. Determine a 99% confidence interval for the proportion of parcels delivered
within 30 min. (K: 1 T: 1 A: 2)
