and Time: Quarter: 2nd QUARTER

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of visualizing
addition and subtraction of similar and dissimilar fractions.

B. Performance Standard The learners can understand and visualize addition and
subtraction of similar and dissimilar fractions.

C. Learning Competencies / Objectives Visualizes addition and subtraction of similar and

dissimilar fractions. M4NS-IIf-82.1

Literacy – Oral Reading

B. Procedures
A. Review What was our last lesson?
Write the improper fractions to mixed numbers
represented by the shape below.

B. Establishing a purpose for the Each group will be given an envelope, each envelope has
lesson a certain illustration. Let them shade and count the shaded
part of each illustration using crayons.
Sample of illustrations inside the envelope.
C. Presenting Examples/Instances Visualizes addition and subtraction of similar and
of new lesson dissimilar fractions
Read the situations loudly (indicator 2)

The Rosales Family was able to collect 2/4 kg of plastic

bottles and 1/4 kg of disposable spoons and forks for their
contribution to the barangay project. How many kilograms
of items did they collect in all? How many kilograms more
plastic bottles than disposable spoons and forks were
collected?

So,
D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills # 1

In adding similar fractions we have to remember these 3

steps:

In adding dissimilar fractions here are the steps:

E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2

In subtracting dissimilar fractions.

Read and solve the situation.

Jose and Marie bought 3/5 kilograms of apples and 1/2

kilograms of oranges. How many kilograms of fruit did they buy
in all? How many more kilograms of apples than oranges did
Marie buy?

F. Developing mastery Group Activity

(Leads to Formative Assessment Each group will be given 10 minutes to illustrate the part of
a shape that will represent the given fraction and solve it.

Group 1 1/5 + 3/5 = 4/5

Group 2 2/8 + 4/8 = 6/8
Group 3 5/8 – 2/8 = 7/8
Group 4 7/8 – 5-8 = 2/8
Group 5 5/12 + 3/12 = 8/12

G. Finding practical applications A postman delivered two boxes. The first weighed 7/8 kg, and
of concepts and skills in daily the second weighed 2/8kg. How much lighter was the second
living box than the first?

H. Making generalizations and Addition and subtraction of Similar Fractions

abstractions about the lesson
1. To add similar fractions, add the numerators and write the
sum over the common denominator.
2. To subtract similar fractions, subtract the numerators and
write the difference over the common denominator. Addition and
Subtraction of Dissimilar Fractions
3. To add dissimilar fractions, change the fraction to similar
fractions by finding the least common Denominator (LCD) or
LCM;
4. Add the numerator;
5. Write the sum over the least common denominator; and
6. Write the answer as a mixed number if it is an improper
fraction.
7. To subtract dissimilar fractions, change the fraction to a
similar fraction by finding the LCD;
8. Subtract the numerator; and
9. Write the difference over the least common denominator.

( For I.P) change improper fractions to mixed numbers.

I. Evaluations Solve each problem by coloring in the second fraction. Write a

new fraction inside of the white box. Make sure that you keep
the denominator (the bottom number) the same.

J. Additional Activities 1. Mrs Santos has 1/3 meter of red lace. Her daughter gave her
1/3 meter of yellow lace. How many meters of lace does Mrs.
Santos have?
2. A football player advances 2/3 of a yard. A second player in
the same team advances 5/4 of a yard. How many more yards
did the second player advance?
V. Remarks
VI. REFLECTIONS

No. of learners who earned 80% on the

formative assessment
No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation who scored below
80%
Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners
who have caught up with the lesson
No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
Which of my teaching strategies worked well?
Why did this work?
What difficulties did I encounter that my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
