(c) A ball is thrown vertically upwards with initial speed 10 ms-1 from the edge of a roof of height H

Consider the analog signal


𝑥𝑎 (𝑡) = 2 sin(2000𝜋𝑡) + 4 sin(5000𝜋𝑡) + 6 sin(8000𝜋𝑡)

(a) Draw the frequency domain representation of the signal xa(t). [6]

(b) What is the fundamental frequency (in Hz)? [2]

(c) We would like to create a new analog signal


xb (t)=12 sin(5000πt) + 18 sin(8000πt)

Design a filter to create signal xb(t) from xa(t). Draw the frequency domain representation of the
filter and give the name of the type of filter that used in this case. [5]

(d) If we sample the analog signal xb(t) by 3 x Nyquist Rate and 3 bits of quantization is used. How
many data (in bits) are required to store 2 minutes of such analog signal. [4]

(e) During the digitization process in (d), which operation will create a loss of the signal? Justify
your answer. (Loss of signal means you cannot recover the original signal after the operation). [3]

Write Octave commands for each of the following questions.

(a) Write Octave commands for solving the function below: [4]
y=x-3sin(3𝜋x2), when x = 5.

(b) Create a plot for (x-y) graph, such that x is an Octave vector with n elements ranged from 0 to 2𝜋
inclusively and y = cos(2x+3). [4]

(Remark: n = abc, where abc is the last 3 digits of your student ID.)
