ASANSOL ENGINEERING COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING POWER SYSTEM LABORATORY POLARITY, RATIO AND MAGNETIZING CHARACTERISTICS OF C.T AND P.T Experiment No : PS- 692/5 ASANSOL ENGINEERING COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SUBJECT: POWER SYSTEM LAB CODE:-EE-692 Experiment No. : PS-692/5 TITLE: POLARITY, RATIO AND MAGNETISATION CHARACTERISTICS TEST OF CT AND PT. To measure the following parameters of a CT based on voltage comparison method. i) Magnetizing characteristics ii) C.T. Ratio. iii) Polarity. ia ro le FI 230 Volts, 50 Hz, Single phase AC. OUTPUT: 4) For ratio, polarity measurement 0-100volts. ii) For magnetizing characteristic continuously variable in 3 range. a) 0 to 40V AC at 6A max. b) Oto 150V AC 4A max. ©) 0 to 500V AC at 1.2A max. Power supply transformer is isolation type electrostatic shielding, DUTY: Smins. ON, 15mins. OFF. METER: *) 3¥é digital voltmeter used for measuring primary and secondary voltage. ii) 3 ¥4 digital ammeter used for measuring excitation current. iii) Analog 4A meter used for polarity of C.1. and P-T. under test. PROCEDURE: PROCEDURE: 1) Connect the units earthed properly. 2) Connect the C.T. and P.T. under test which as shown in Fig.1 or Fig.2, Fig. 1 for polarity and ratio measurement and Fig.2 for ratio measurement. 3) Connect the main power supply cord to the nearest power supply (230V AC). 4) Make the test set ‘ON’ switch, which is indicated by glowing «Mains On’ indicating lamp. 5) Bring back the polarity and ratio measurement variac to zero position (connection diagram Fig.1). The output voltage cannot be energised unless the variac is first returned to zero position. It is called zero interlocking. 6) Keep the polarity ‘and ratio measurement switch first at zero position. 7) Make the polarity meter zero by "zero adj. pot." 8) Slightly increase the output voltage as shown in the voltmeter-V1 ‘& V2.Then press the "Press to see polarity push switch" to see the polarity of the P.T. and C.T. under test. If it is shows reverse then Interchange the primary and secondary terminals connection. Then it will show correct by pressing the polarity push switch. The Blacks or Red terminal leads of CT. and P.T. will start. 9) After showing the polarity, keep the polarity ratio switch at zero position, The n increase the output voltage. It will be shown by V1 and V2 voltmeter. (Refer results). 10) After obtaining the ratio of C.T. and P.T. make the C.T. and PT. connection as shown in the fig. 2. 11) After making the variac zero position, press the start green switch to energize the output voltage circuit. ‘ON’. It is indicated by Red lamp. 12) After making output circuit ‘ON’ slowly increase the output voltage, which is shown by set K.V. meter ‘and corresponding no Joad current shown by the set Ammeter Meter. 13) Take the different readings ‘and plot the magnetizing characteristics taking voltage in y-axis and no load current in x- axis. State the function of the current transformer. Whet is ratio error? 2, What is the difference between CT used for protection purpose and measurement purpose?
