• 20g Carnival 8ply acrylic in white (Colour


81)
• 10g Tizz 8ply acrylic in light blue (Colour
23053)
• Small amount Carnival 8ply acrylic in
yellow (Colour 88)
• Small amount 8ply acrylic in dark grey
• Small amount Carnival 8ply acrylic in black
(Colour 86) or back embroidery cotton
• Twist ties or pipe cleaner
• 1 pair 7mm safety eyes
• Polyester fibrefill

Tools and notions

• 3.0mm crochet hook


• Knitting bee
• Stitch marker (optional)
• Wool or tapestry needle

• Tension is not critical but should be tight to prevent fibrefill leaking.
• Stitches used: slst, dc, htr, tr, 3ch picot, invisible decrease (invdec), magic ring,

• You can use any yarn with this project, however, use a smaller needle than
recommended to keep gauge tight. Project is approximately 11 cm tall when made
as directed.

Body (tooth?):

Use white yarn.

Foundation: 6 st magic ring


Round 1: dc in each st (6 st)
Round 2: *1dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (9 st)
Round 3: dc to end of round (9 st)
Round 4: *2dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (12 st)
Round 5: dc to end of round (12 st)
Round 6: *3dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (15 st)
Round 7: dc to end of round (15 st)
Round 8: *4dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (18 st)

Slst, invisible fasten off, leaving a long tail. Make a total of 3 pieces in the same way.

Make a fourth piece up to the end of Round 8, but do not break the yarn. Assemble the four
pieces as shown below. Note that each piece will have 12 stitches left over after assembly,
which you will continue to crochet into.

1. Align two pieces as shown and sew three


pairs of loops together as indicated by the
pins.
2. Add the third piece and sew the three
pairs of loops together as shown.

Stuff lightly and continue working

Break yarn and pull though. Using a yarn needle, run the end of the yarn through the top
loops of the last 6 stitches and full firmly to close. Insert the needle vertically through the
body and pull firmly to create a divot in the top of the body (see above). Secure the yarn to
the bottom of the body (between the legs… roots?) with a few back stitches. Weave in ends.

Arms (make 2):

Use white yarn.

Foundation: 6 st magic ring


Round 1: 2dc in each st (12 st)
Round 2-3: dc to end of round (12 st)
Round 4: *2dc, invdec*, repeat ** to end of round (9 st)
Round 5-6: dc to end of round (9 st)

Slst, invisible fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff lightly and sew to the body on opposite
sides between Rounds 10-12.

Crown:

Foundation: Ch 16
Row 1 (WS): insert hook into the second chain from hook, dc to end, turn (15 st)
Row 2 (RS): ch 1, skip 1, *htr, tr, 3 ch picot, tr, htr into same st, skip 2*, repeat ** 3 times,
htr, tr, 3 ch picot, tr, htr into same st, slst into last stitch of Row 1

Break yarn and pull though, leaving a long tail. Fold the piece in half and sew the short ends
together. Sew to the top of the body at Round 21.

Wings (make 2 each):

Hindwing:

Use light blue yarn.

Foundation: 6 st magic ring


Round 1: 2dc in each st (12 st)
Round 2: *1dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (18 st)
Round 3: *2dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (24 st)

Slst, invisible fasten off, leaving a long tail. Place both pieces side by side and sew together
using whip stitch. Sew to the back of the body between Rounds 10 and 11. Use small
stitches to anchor the upper part of the wings to the body.

Forewing:

Use light blue yarn.

Foundation: 6 st magic ring


Round 1: 2dc in each st (12 st)
Round 2: *1dc, 2dc in 1 st*, repeat ** to end of round (18 st)
Round 3: 4dc, 2htr in 1 st, 2 tr in 1 st four times, 2htr in 1 st, 8dc
Round 4: *3dc, 2dc in I st*, repeat **, 2htr in 1 st, 2 tr in 1 st, 3 ch picot, 2 tr in 1 st, 2htr in 1
st, repeat ** 3 times

Slst, invisible fasten off, leaving a long tail. Place both pieces side by side and sew together
using whip stitch. Sew to the back of the body between Rounds 12 and 14. Use small
stitches to anchor the lower part of the forewings to the hindwings.

Dental Pliers:

Using the knitting bee and dark grey yarn, make two 8.5cm
i-cords. Cut several eight 8cm lengths of twist tie or use two
16cm lengths of pipe cleaner folded in half.

Before tightening off, insert the twist ties or pipe cleaner into
the i-cord as shown on the right. Weave in ends.

Bend the stiffened i-cords into shape and sew together as


shown on the right. Stabilise the jaws of the pliers by sewing
the tips together.

Finishing:

Sew the dental pliers to the arm and anchor


them to the leg for stability.

Using black yarn, embroider the detail on


the face using whipped backstitch.

Now book an appointment with your dentist.
