DETAILED LESSON PLAN

MATH IV

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to:
1. State the rule for finding the perimeter of polygons.
2. Demonstrate how to solve the perimeter of any polygons.
3. Identify real life situations in which perimeter are usefully applied.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Quarter: 3rd
Grade Level: 4
Topic: Perimeter

III. MATERIALS: Paper and Pencil, PowerPoint

IV. PROCEDURE
TEACHERS’ ACTIVITY LEARNERS’ ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activity
1. Good morning students. Good morning teacher/ma’am
2. Okay, before we start, let us start
our day with a prayer, let us bow
our head and feel the presence of
God. In the name the Father, and
of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord

is with thee; blessed art thou
among women and blessed is the
fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
sinners, now and at the hour of
our death. Amen.
In the name the Father, and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
3. Before we proceed to our
discussion, I’m going to check
your attendance first. If I call your
name say present.

4. In our online class. We have some

rules or protocols that you need to
follow.
- First, if I ask some question,
all you need to do is to raise
your hand, just click the hand
below that can be seen in our
google meet, so in that case I
will recognize who
willing/want to answer.
- Second, wear a proper or
decent clothes. In girls;
Spaghetti shirt, sleeve less is
not allowed, in boys; sleeve
less, and also being naked is
not allowed to enter our
google meet.
- Third, avoid interruption or
any noise while the teachers
or other classmates are
speaking.
- And last, everyone needs to
participate in any activity and
recitation.
B. Review
We will be having a short review about
the different polygons.

What are the different polygons again

class? “Square, Rectangle, Triangle, Parallelogram,
Trapezoid etc.”

C. Presentation
Now, class can you look around, and tell me
what are the things you see in your
surroundings?
"Keyboard mam”

Yes, Althea?

“Table mam”
Okay, what else Jem?
Anything else to add?
Thank you!

Now, can you identify its shape? Althea, what is “Rectangle mam”
the shape of the door?
“Square mam”
How about the shape of your table, Jem?
“Triangle mam”
How about the shape of chips? Liene?

Okay, Very good!

Those things that you’ve mentioned are

examples of plane figures.

(The teacher will ask the students to count the

sides of the plane figures that they’ve
mentioned.)

Class, how many sides are there in a square? “Square has 4 sides mam”
Maika?
Correct!

How about the sides of a rectangle, Hamlet?

“Rectangle has 4 sides mam”

Very Good!

Love Joi, how many sides are there in a triangle?

“Triangle has 3 sides mam”

Okay thank you!

D. Lesson Proper

Our lesson for today is all about

Perimeter.

At the end of our lesson the will be able

to

1. State the rule for finding the

perimeter of polygons.
2. Demonstrate how to solve the
perimeter of any polygons.
3. Identify real life situations in
which perimeter are usefully
applied.

1. Introduction
Class, always remember that polygons are closed
figures made up of line segments that meet at the
“Yes mam”
endpoints. Do you understand class?

Perimeter is the distance around a two

dimensional shapes, or the measurement of the
distance around something; the length of a
boundary.

2. Presentation
Now, I will be drawing a triangle.
Ruzelle, can you describe the triangle?
“Triangle has 3 equal sides mam”

Okay, Correct!

Class, remember. If we are going to measure the

length of the drawing triangle, we will be getting
the triangle’s perimeter.

The length of the drawing triangle is the

perimeter of the triangle. Is it clear?
“Yes mam”

Now class, I will be going to teach you on how

to solve the perimeter of a polygon.

(The teacher will draw a square on the board)

As you can see, we have a square here. How

many sides are there in a square, Kimberly P.? “There are 4 sides mam”

Correct!

So class, a square has 4 sides and has equal

length in all sides. In order to get the perimeter
of the square all we need to do is add all the
sides of it. After adding all the sides and comes
with the sum then it will be the perimeter
accompanied by the number sentence.

If what we just need to do is to add all sides,

what will be the formula in getting the perimeter
of a square, Kimberly E.? “4(a) mam”

Very Good!

(The teacher will give a number equivalent for

the sides of square)

Let us now try to add the equivalent size of each

side. Let s1= 2cm, s2= 2cm, s3= 2cm, and s4=
2cm. What will be the answer? Kindly raise your
(students raise their hands)
hand if you want to answer class.

Yes, Ruby?

“8 mam”
Yes, Correct!
Other way to solve it is P = 4(a)
P = 4a
= 4 (2cm)
= 4 x 2cm
= 8cm

Now let us try to find the perimeter of Rectangle.

(The teacher will draw a rectangle on the board)

“A rectangle has four sides mam”

2cm

Christine, can you describe the rectangle?

Correct!

“Yes mam”
Remember that rectangle has opposite size for
the length and width. But, in order to get its
perimeter, we just need to add all the sides of it.
Is it clear?

Now, let’s have the formula in getting the

perimeter of the rectangle.

P= Length+Length+Width+Width or P= 2
(L+W)
(Let the length of the rectangle be 5 cm and 2cm
for the width)
First formula
P= 5cm+5cm+2cm+2cm= 14cm

“Yes mam”
Second formula
P= 2 (5cm+2cm)
P= 2 (7cm)
P= 14 cm

Did you get it, class?

Now let’s move on in getting the perimeter of
triangle.

Formula: P= a+b+c

4cm 4cm

5cm “13cm mam”

What is the answer class?
P= 4cm+4cm+5cm= 13cm

So class that’s the end of the discussion. Always

remember in getting the perimeter of any
polygon, all you need to do is to add all sides.
And after that you will get the perimeter.

(The teacher will recall all the discussions about

what is perimeter, and how to get the perimeter
of polygons.)
3. Training Skills
Now, I have here set of polygons that you need
to find its perimeter. You can write your answers
in any sheet of paper. I will be giving you 3
minutes to answer this. Okay?

P = 4 (a)
= 4 (5cm+3cm+4cm+3cm)
= 4 (15)
= 60cm

P= 12cm+12cm+7cm+7cm= 38cm

P= 2 (12cm+7cm)
P= 2 (19cm)
P= 38 cm

Bea wants to put a fence around the vegetable

garden that she builds in her yard. The space has
a rectangle shape that measured 6 feet wide and
10 feet long. How many feet of fence materials
does she need to buy?
(The teacher will ask students to share their
answers)

Thank you, Everyone!

Excellent! It seems that you really understand

our lesson.
E. Generalization
Again class, what are the examples of polygons?
How can we get the perimeter of a polygon?
Yes, Kimberly, Maika, Christine, Jem,
Love, Janna, Hamlet, Ruzzelle, Kimberly
Ellie

F. Evaluation

figures below.

1.

2cm

P=?

2.

P=?
3.
4inch

6 inch
P=?

4.

5. Marie wants to measure the perimeter

of his bedroom. His bedroom floor
exacts as a square shape, one side
measure 9 meters. What is the
perimeter of Marie’s room?

V. ASSIGNMENT:
Solve the question below and show the solutions.

1. 2. The perimeter of a rectangle is 128 centimeters and the

7ft length is 47 centimeters. Find the width of the rectangle.
