Motion: For
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Today, we stand here before all of you, strongly
agree a motion that: “Zoos should be banned”. While some argue that zoos serve as
important for conservation, education, and research, we believe that the negative impacts
of zoos far outweigh their benefits. In this speech, we will show you three main points to
support my stance.
First, The fact that zoos significantly shorten the lives of animals. Wild animals are
adapted to live in their natural habitats. In contrast, zoo animals are confined to small
enclosures with limited resources, leading to a health problems.
Second, zoos cause significant damage to animal psychology. The term “zoochosis”
refers to the emotional pain that captive animals experience as a result of captivity. These
symptoms can range from repeat behaviors like pacing and self-harm to more severe
issues like depression and psychosis. In some cases, animals may even become
aggressive towards their keepers or other zoo animals.
And the last one, zoos are primarily designed for entertainment rather than conservation.
While some zoos may claim to contribute to conservation efforts through breeding
programs and research initiatives, the reality is that most zoos are for profit, focused
mainly on attract tourists.
In conclusion, we agree with the view that zoo should be discontinued. While some may
argue that zoos serve a valuable purpose, I believe that the negative impacts far outweigh
their benefits. By banning zoos and focusing on more sustainable conservation practices,
we can ensure that wild animals are treated better and deserves respect.
Thank you!

Motion: Against
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. We probably know that the zoo is famous for
preserving and caring for thousands of different animal species. In addition, the zoo is
also an extremely interesting destination to explore and learn about animals. Thanks to
that, the zoo has great appeal to tourists and animal lovers. Recently, an issue appeared
on the forum "Zoos should be banned". This issue has caused much controversy. And
today, we are here to strongly oppose this issue.
First, zoos contribute to educating the public about animals and conservation efforts.
Many zoos offer educational programs for visitors of all ages from tours. These programs
can help people learn about animals as well as animal conservation issues. For example,
FZS Station is part of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project (SOCP). The
project's aim is to provide a comprehensive conservation approach that includes species
and ecosystem management.
Next, zoos have helped create scientific research that has helped humans prevent many
diseases for hundreds of years. For example, the Smithsonian National Zoo has a
program to research the Ebola virus in African primates. This research is important for
understanding how the virus spreads and how to prevent future outbreaks.
Last but not least, we will talk about the conservation of animals in zoos, the zoo has
saved animals from extinction and other dangers. In particular, zoos have played an
important role in wildlife conservation. For example, there were only nine California
condors in the wild in 1985. Joint conservation efforts between the San Diego and Los
Angeles Zoos and other organizations have created a population of 276 California
condors.
The zoo appeared from 1752 until now, the zoo has existed for 271 years. In fact, should
zoos be banned, many species would have gone extinct already. To survive during that
time, the zoo brought many benefits.
In short, continuing to maintain zoos is an effective method to conserve and research
animals. Given the many benefits that zoos bring, we strongly oppose the issue "Zoos
should be banned".
Thank you!
