1 General view of the product

The SAR is a help request device for lifts, according to standards EN 81-1, EN 81-2 and pr EN 81-28. It
uses a direct telephone line as a vehicle and it is compatible with standard TBR21 and with the Telefonica
ITE-CA-001 line interface.

1.1 As a help request device

• It permits two-directional “hands free” telephone communication between a person in car, roof or pit
and a 24-hour assistance service. The communication can be started from car, roof and pit or from
the assistance service. (see section 3).
• It has an output for a luminous indicator (LED with resistor, 12 V to 24 V) as confirmation that the
help request call is in progress and it emits the spoken guide message “Calling. Please wait”.
• It has an input for the help request pushbutton in car. If this pushbutton is pressed, the call will only
be made if it is kept pressed for at least 3 seconds. To establish the call, it admits up to 4 telephone
numbers (1 to 4), which it will call sequentially until the connection becomes valid.
• It has another independent input for the help request pushbuttons in roof and/or pit. It must be kept
pressed for at least 3 seconds. Another telephone number (5), which is independent from the
previous 4, is foreseen for this call. In the event that connection cannot be established at this
number, it then calls the 4 numbers associated with the car pushbutton.
• The intercom in the machine room only requires two wires and this can be a standard market tone
telephone. It permits a conversation between the machine room and the car, roof or pit.
• The whole configuration of telephone numbers and operating modes can be carried out from the
actual intercom or remotely from any tone telephone. As help during programming, the SAR
transmits a set of spoken guide messages from the telephone or the intercom, but not from the car.
• Up to 8 parallel SARs can be connected in the same telephone line. If the assistance service wishes
to call and contact the person in a specific car, three extra wires, which connect the SARs that share
the telephone line, are necessary. This connection permits selecting the car we wish to converse
with. (see section 3.3 and 4.3)
• It incorporates the option of auto periodic test call. (see section 2).

2 Description of the SAR parameters

All the functions set out below can be configured both from a remote telephone and from the intercom,
and the values corresponding to each parameter, as well as the commands used can be found on the SAR
command table. (see section 7).
Dialing: Parameter 3 0

The SAR equipment can call the programmed telephone numbers (note 1) by::
• Tone dialing (value 0)
• Pulse dialing (value 1)
Note 1: SAR programming will always be done by tones.
Number of Rings: Parameter 3 1

This permits selecting the number of rings that the SAR must wait before answering. This can be
adjusted from 1 to 9 rings.
Validation of the help request calls: Parameter 3 2

If the remote telephone does not answer or is engaged, or if the call has not be made correctly, the SAR
will try to call the programmed phone numbers sequentially until it manages to establish the connection and
considers the call is valid. To be able to determine if a help request call has been made correctly, the SAR
has two options:
• Validation by answering from the remote telephone (value 0): The SAR will consider the call to be made
whenever it detects the answering signal from the remote telephone. (note 2).
• Validation by pressing key 0 From the remote telephone (value 1): The SAR will consider the call is
made only if it receives the tone corresponding to key 0 .

Note 2: In this operating mode, if the call is received by an answering machine the SAR will interpret the call is correct
and will not call the next telephone.
Privacy in car: Parameter 3 3

In the case of a call being made from a remote telephone to the SAR, this operating mode prevents a
conversation being heard in car without its occupants’ consent. The occupants will give permission for the
conversation by pressing the help request button just once.
Type of telephone line: Parameter 3 4

To be able to operate with different line tones than the standard TBR21 / ITE-CA-001(Telefónica) or with
excessive induced noise, there are two operating modes:
• Normal (value 0): The SAR analyses the different line tones and based on these distinguishes the state
of the connection (invitation to dial, calling, engaged or hung up).
• Ignoring line tones (value 1): If the SAR makes the call, it awaits the dialing invitation tone and dials the
selected telephone 5 seconds after pick-up (note 3). In addition it ignores the hang-up tones of the
remote telephone and hangs up by auto hang-up time or by remote hang-up (entering in the remote
telephone ∗ 0 # )
Note 3: If this option is used, the call can only be validated by pressing key “0” from the telephone that receives the call, regardless of
the validation mode selected in parameter 32.

Auto hang-up time: Parameter 3 5

With a connection established, the SAR will hang up after a certain time that can be set between 1 and 4
minutes. Ten seconds before hanging up it will give off several tones warning of the intention to hang up. If
the person on the remote telephone wishes to continue the communication, he must press key 0 and the
SAR will answer with the word VALID, re-starting the auto-hang up time.
Auto periodical test call time: Parameter 3 6

The SAR makes an automatic test call to telephones 6 and/or 7 sequentially until the connection is
established, with a periodicity that can be selected between 1 and 7 days. Standard prEN 81-28 requires the
existence of this function to test that the help request system is operative. To deactivate this function just
select value 0.
Action of the help request pushbuttons with the connection established. Parameter 3 7

After establishing the connection, these pushbuttons have two possible actions:
• Null action (value 0). Pressing again with connection established has not effect.
• Hang-up action (value 1): If the pushbutton is pressed again, it cuts off the connection and hangs up.

3 Operating method for the SAR

The three operating methods set out below correspond to the parameters with the default values, which
appear in the command table (see section 7), underlined.

3.1 Operating method for start of communication from car, roof and/or pit
1. Press the help request pushbutton for 3 seconds.
2. The SAR will emit the message “Calling. Please wait” and will sequentially call the programmed
telephones to establish connection with one of them.
3. From then on it will be possible to:
• Hold a conversation between the person in the car and the person in the telephone.
• Program telephones and parameters from the remote telephone (see section 5.5 and 5.6)

4. To end the communication, there are three options:

• Wait until the SAR carries out the Auto hang-up (see parameter 3 5 in section 2), or detects
the hang-up signal from the telephone company.
• Force the hang up of the SAR from the remote telephone, by keying in the command ∗ 0 # .

• Press the help request pushbutton again (see parameter 3 7 in section 2).

3.2 Operating method to start a communication from a telephone to one alone SAR
1. Dial the SAR telephone number.
2. After the number of rings set (see parameter 3 1 in section 2), the SAR will answer and will
establish the connection with speaker and microphone disconnected.
3. Telephone numbers and parameters may be programmed with the connection established.
4. By pressing key 1 on the telephone, the speaker and the microphone in the car will be activated
and a conversation can be held with the person in the car.
5. To end the communication, there are three options explained in section 3.1, point 4.

3.3 Operating method to start a communication from a telephone to several SAR sharing the same
telephone line.
1. Dial the telephone the SARs are connected to.
2. After the number of rings set (see parameter 3 1 in section 2), the SAR configured as number 1
will answer and will establish the connection with speaker and microphone disconnected.
3. Telephones and parameters of SAR 1 can be programmed with the connection established. If you
wish to program telephone numbers or parameters of another SAR (1 to 8), the SAR must be
selected by pressing the key ( 2 to 8 ). (see section 5.5 and 5.6).
4. By pressing key ( 1 to 8 ) again corresponding to the previously selected SAR, the speaker and
microphone are activated, and a conversation can be held with the person in car 1 to 8.
5. To end the communication, there are three options explained in section 3.1, point 4.

4 Installation

4.1 Basic installation instructions

The self-contained SAR is supplied mounted and pre-installed inside a double insulation box.
Connection with the elements of the button panel (speaker, microphone, car help request pushbutton and
pilot light) will be made by means of hose MG/J4 supplied together with the box.
The help request pushbuttons on roof and/or pit as well as the connection to the Hidra communication
bus is supplied mounted. To install, proceed as follows:
1. Disconnect the operation supply.
2. Install the self-contained SAR equipment on the car roof.
3. Install the pushbutton for the bottom of the car under it.
4. Carry out the installation of the speaker, microphone and luminous pushbutton of the car button
panel (see Graph 1 and 4). The car help request pushbutton must normally be open and the call
indicator LED has 12 Vdc. (note 4).
Note 4: IMPORTANT. To avoid possible noises during the telephone conversation, connect the blue cable, which is connected to
the speaker, to earth. To do so you can use the same bolt that is used to fasten the speaker.

1. The telephone line and the earth will be connected directly to connector J1 of the SAR. IMPORTANT
to connect the earth cable to the SAR. (see Graph 2, 3 and 4).
2. If the equipment has an intercom, connect two free cables of the trailing cable in the nylon terminal
(note 5) foreseen for installing the intercom (they have no polarity), (see Graph 2, 3)
Note 5: Up to three intercoms can be fitted in parallel.

3. Place the supplied telephone intake (RJ-11) in the place of the machine room where the intercom is
to be installed. The two cables connected in the previous step in the nylon terminal will be
connected in L1 and L2 of the phone socket and plug the intercom into this.
4. SAR Supply:
• Self-contained 220 Vac SAR: Connect 220Vac into connector B1 of the emergency power
supply PAB (note 6) (See Graph 2).
• Self-contained 12Vdc SAR: Connect 12Vdc into the two nylon terminals respecting the polarity
(see Graph 3)

Note 6: The power supply battery requires 24 hours to be completely charged, so, during the initial tests and when the 220V are
disconnected, the equipment may not work correctly.

4.2 Audio adjustments

The SAR incorporates an automatic balance that prevents acoustic coupling between microphone and
speaker, thus being able to obtain maximum acoustic efficiency possible at all times, depending on the
distance between them (recommend 200mm minimum) and the acoustic qualities of the car.
. The MIC and SPK potentiometers are factory set at an intermediate point. If necessary, these
adjustments can be altered to modify the sensitivity of the microphone (MIC) or the volume of the speaker
(SPK).
IMPORTANT: These potentiometers must not, under any circumstances, be set at their maximum
positions, or very decompensated (one very high and the other very low) as under these conditions the voice
may cut off..

4.3 Connection of several cars to the same telephone line

Up to 8 SARs may be connected in the same telephone line in parallel (8 cars). The car number of each
SAR must be configured with microswitches S1, defining the car number 1 with the jumpers JP3 and JP4.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that, of all interconnected SARs, only one has to have the jumpers JP3 and JP4
placed. These jumpers must be removed from the other SARs. The SAR set as car number 1 is the only
that answers an incoming call and it is the SAR where JP3 and JP4 must be inserted.
The selection of the car number can be modified with microswitch S1, situating its switches in the
indicated position according to the car number (see Graph 5).

If you wish to connect more than one self-contained SAR in the same telephone line, the three
communication wires (note 7) of each SAR must be connected in parallel (through a flat hose from car to
car) as well as the common telephone line (note 8). Connect the communication wires as shown in Graph 6.

Note 7: The three communication wires (COM1, COM2, COM3) are located in the nylon terminals of each SAR box.
Note 8: The telephone line with its earth will be connected to connector J1 of each SAR.

5 SAR Programming Commands

The SAR can be programmed from the intercom or from the telephone (note 9):
• From the SAR intercom it is sufficient to pickup it and the SAR will be ready to accept commands.
• From a telephone we must follow the call operating method (see section 3) and after establishing the
connection, the SAR will be ready to accept commands.
Note 9: Both the telephone and the intercom must be configured in TONE mode, the programming operation cannot be
done from a PULSE telephone.
Before making any consultation, entry or modification of parameters, the menu access code (CAM) (note
10) is required. As a result of any modification operation, the SAR will answer with the word VALID if the
action has successfully been completed. If it is keyed in incorrectly or if the operation is not allowed, the
SAR answers with the word ERROR.
Note 10: The identifier has a special treatment. (see section 5.4)

5.1 Description of the SAR commands

The whole SAR programming is carried out wit commands, which are key sequences of the telephone or
intercom. With these commands, the parameters that configure the SAR operating mode can be changed,
the telephone numbers can be entered, consulted or modified.
The commands may have only one key:

0 : Increase in auto hang-up time or call validation.

1 to 8 : Car selection from telephone and connection of speaker and microphone.

Or have several keys:

5.2 Entry of Menu Access Code (CAM)

To be able to enter any of the telephone numbers or parameters, the CAM must previously be entered.
This is a 4-digit number that ends with the # signal. The initial CAM is 0 0 0 0 . To enter it we must follow
the steps given below:

5.3 Modification of the CAM

After entering the CAM it can be modified by entering another 4-digit number ending in # .

5.4 Entry, modification or consultation of the lift identification number (ID)

The SAR has a parameter (ID) to be able to identify it. This parameter is used to identify the installation
from a telephone or PC. The ID must be unique within the installations pool in maintenance.
To enter or modify the identification number, the CAM access code must be entered and then the
command ∗ 1 # entered. The ID number may have 16 digits ending with the key # . (note 11)

Note 11: the ID may be the LIFT REGISTERING NUMBER or even the same telephone number as the SAR to facilitate
its location.

To consult the lift identification number, just enter the consultation command ∗ 1 ∗ . There is no need
to enter the CAM access code, as it is considered to be a free access consultation. The SAR will answer
with the value saved in the ID parameter.

When the intercom answers, or when the SAR answers an outside call, the SAR does not emit any
signal. To check that the SAR is on standby, just enter the request command of the lift identifier ∗ 1 ∗ , the
SAR will answer with the ID or with the word EMPTY if this parameter has not been programmed.

5.5 Entry, modification or consultation of telephone numbers

El The SAR has 7 memories for 7 telephone numbers. We can enter, modify or consult any of them with
the relative commands. The telephone numbers can have up to 24 digits ending with the # key. If we wish
to enter a pause in the telephone number, we must type ∗ .
For example, to enter or modify telephone 1 ( 930040362 ) ending in # key:

5.6 Entry, modification or consultation of the parameters

The entry, modification or consultation of the SAR parameters are carried out by following exactly the
same operating method as for the telephone numbers. All the possible parameters are shown on the SAR
command table and the underlined values correspond to the factory pre-settings. (see section 6).
By way of an example, activate the call validation (parameter 3 2 ), take the following steps:
