UNIT 1
1. Define ICT.
Ans: Information and communication technologies (ICT) is defined as a diverse set of technological tools
and resources used to transmit, store, create, share, or exchange information.

2. Differentiate between data and information with example.


Ans: Data is an individual unit that contains raw materials which do not carry any specific meaning.
Information is a group of data that collectively carries a logical meaning.

Examples are Timetable, Merit List, Report card, receipts, reports etc.

3. Write down ICT application in industries.


Ans: Some important applications of ICT include application in communication, measurement, industry,
and business.

4. Compare system software and application software with example.


Ans: Application Software helps the user to perform a specific task. For example, a word processing
software and gaming software.

System Software controls and manages the computer hardware. It enables the application software to
run for example, operating system, device drivers, etc.

5. Differentiate between input and output devices.


Ans: Input devices are used to enter data and instructions into the computer. Some commonly used input
devices are keyboard, mouse, microphone, and scanner.
Output devices are used to show the results of data processing. Some commonly used output devices

are display screen, printer, and speaker.

6. Write functions of the following devices.


a. Printer: Printer is used to get hard copy of output like documents or photos, on paper etc.
b. Biometric device: Biometric is used for verifying the identity of living person.
c. Digital camera: Digital camera allows user to take photos or videos that can be stored in computer.
d. Smart phone: A smartphone is a cell phone that lets you do more than make phone calls and send
text messages.
e. Speaker: Speaker is used to listen the audio or sound from computer video games, video etc.
f. Router: Router is a network device that forwards data from one network to another and selects best
route.

UNIT 2
1. Define operating system. List different examples of operating system.
Ans: Operating system: Operating system is an interface between the computer user and the components of
the computer. For example, Microsoft windows, chrome OS, Blackberry, Android OS etc.

2. What is utility program? Give two examples.


Ans: Utility program (service programs) perform specific tasks related to the management of computer
functions, resources, or files. Example of utility programs are managing files, virus protection.

3. Differentiate between a file and folder.


Ans: File: Stored data and information on computer are called files.
Folder: A folder is way to organize files on the storage device.

4. Write down steps to create a shortcut of Microsoft Word application on desktop.


Ans: Right-click the program name or tile, and then select Open file location. Right-click the program name,
and then click Send to > Desktop (Create shortcut).

5. Write down the steps to restore a deleted file.


Ans: Restore a deleted file:
a. Double click the Recycle bin icon on desktop.
b. Right clicking on the file, menu will appear. Select the restore option to restore an item to its
original location.
6. Define application software and list three types of application software.
Ans: A software developed to help the user to perform specific task is called application software. E.g.,
computer games, spreadsheet, and word processing.

7. Write down the steps to create a folder.

2. Differentiate between a potential solution and an ideal solution.
Ans: All the possible solutions to a problem are called potential solution while the best of these solution is
called the ideal solution.
3. Develop your own conditional statements.

4. Write two examples of repetition from the real word.
