TYPE OF PROJECT
Co- living and Co- working spaces.
Co- living and Co- working are a contemporary concept that millennials,
digital nomads or remote workers are adopting in the pursuit of flexibility
and freedom. Also, between 2011 and 21019 interstate migration in
India touched 9 million annually in urban areas due to development and
advancement in technology, start up project and growing IT industry.
Hence to meet evolving the living and working pattern in today’s world
cost effective and flexible solution is required.

According to the analysis, workers living in capital cities spend an

average of 66 minutes travelling to and from work each day. There is an
increase in this statistic since 2002. A study from the University of the
West of England found that “every extra minute of commute time
reduces job satisfaction, leisure time satisfaction, and mental health.
AIM
The aim of the project is to design a co-living and co –working space in order to share,
connect and explore with meaningful and sustainable ways creating an environment that
fosters the well- being of the people in the world of digitalization.

OBJECTIVES
• To bring a sense of community living with more efficiency and flexibility catering all
the needs of the user.
• To unite the workspace with outside living space by establishing a platform for the
people to develop through the dissemination of various works.
• To overcome the environmental, social and economic problems by integration by
smart building solutions
• To create a universal design positioned to respond to contemporary challenges.
• To increase the awareness, desirability and accessibility of contemporary design as a
sustainable lifestyle alternative.
SITE LOCATION

LOCATION : POWAI,MUMBAI,MAHARASHTRA
Elevation / Altitude: 3 meters above sea level
ABOUT LOCATION: Powai is a part of the Mumbai Suburban District located
in the north-eastern region of what is today considered to be the modern
Mumbai metropolis. Administratively, it is a part of the Kurla tehsil and much
of the area falls within the boundaries of the S-ward, the largest ward in
Mumbai. In 1958, the establishment of the technology and research
institution – Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay brought the micro
market into limelight. There are corporate offices such as Crisil, Bayer, L&T,
Nomura, Colgate-Palmolive, Deloitte and Cognizant. Additionally, the micro
market also provides a scenic view of the Powai Hills and the Sanjay Gandhi
National Park.
SURROUNDING AREAS: Convenience stores such as D Mart and shopping
complexes like Galleria and R City Mall (located less than 4 km from Powai)
are also available for the shopping needs of residents
• High Street Phoenix (1 KM), IIT Powai (1 KM), Saki Vihar Road (1 KM),
Marol (2 KM), Vikhroli West (2 KM) are the nearby Localities to Powai
• Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar are the nearby Cities to
Mumbai
ACCESSIBILITY –The locality is well linked to various developed areas of
Maharashtra and a number of hotels, schools, banks and hospitals via an
excellent network of railways and roadways. The arterial roads connecting
Powai with other prominent areas of the city are JogeshwariVikhroli Link
Road (JVLR), Eastern Express Highway, Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road, Saki
Vihar Road and Chandivali Road.
- 3 KMS –FROM KANJURMARJ/VIKHROLI RAILWAY STATION
- 4 KMS – FROM CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
CLIMATE - The mean maximum average temperatures is about 32 °C in
summer and 30 °C in winter, while the average minimums are 25 °C in
summer and 18 °C in winter.
LAND USE - RESIDENTIAL
TOTAL SITE AREA: 23,650 (5.85ACRES)
SITE SELECTION JUSTIFICATION: The Eastern suburb of Mumbai-Powai has
seen the outburst of start-ups in recent times. According to Times of India
report, it has more than 50 start-ups that opened up recently. The area is
fast becoming a start-up hub is being termed as the Silicon Valley of Mumbai
and there are several reasons for it. The dream city Mumbai is the most
preferred over cities for B schools professionals and IITians. After Bangalore,
the city offers wide range of employment opportunity for employees but
also huge opportunities for employers. The rise of new economic corridors
and a slew of infrastructure development has opened the floodgate for
newer city dwellings to accommodate the ever-rising demand for housing.
The rapid urbanization and upgraded lifestyle have led to a consequential
rise in the development of co- living and co –working spaces
Structural system
• RCC structural system – Flat slab

Flat slab is a reinforced concrete slab supported directly by concrete columns

without the use of beams. Flat slab is defined as one sided or two-sided
support system with sheer load of the slab being concentrated on the
supporting columns and a square slab called ‘drop panels.
Uses of Column Heads
• It increases shear strength of slab.
• It reduces the moment in the slab by reducing the clear or effective.
span
Uses of Drop Panels
• It increases shear strength of slab.
• It increases negative moment capacity of slab.
Advantages of flat slabs
It is recognized that Flat Slabs without drop panels can be built at a very fast
pace as the framework of structure is simplified and diminished. Flat slab
construction can deeply reduce floor-to –floor height especially in the absence
of false ceiling as flat slab construction does act as limiting factor on the
placement of horizontal services and partitions. This can prove gainful in case
of lower building height, decreased cladding expense and pre-fabricated
services.
CURTAIN WALL GLAZING – SOLAR GLASS
WALLING MATERIAL, BUILDING ELEMENTS, ROOFING
Solar glass
Colourless PV glass. This is black, with varying levels of opacity. It can be up to
50% transparent – much more than traditional PV. They can be used for
instance in balconies, skylights or in facades (alternated with standard
windows). Thin film panels work in non-optimal conditions, in lower light and
higher temperatures. This means a longer day of solar gain compared to
‘traditional’ panels. If double glazed, they have a U-value of less than one,
meaning the energy efficiency of the building is not compromised. However,
they are expensive to produce and transparency is limited. They cost
approximately twice that of commercial quality glazing.
• Greening systems, as green roofs and green walls, are frequently used
as an aesthetical feature in buildings. However, the current technology
involved in this system can maximize the functional benefits of plants to
buildings performance and make part of a sustainable strategy of the
project.

Insulite
Insulite is a green roofing material with a base from silica obtained from
industrial waste and developed using a unique formula containing fiberous
polymer liquid.
This permanent roof insulation material is cost effective, light weight and has
wide area of applications. The thermal conductivity is 10 to 12 times lesser
compared to normal brick bat reducing the heat transmission by 20 to 40 per
cent. Insulite is termite and rodent proof and has high durability. It is also easy
to apply and takes close to four times lesser time than brick bats to be
completed.
Concrete bricks
Concrete bricks are made from solid concrete and are growing in popularity
among homeowners. Concrete bricks are usually placed in facades, fences,
and provide an excellent aesthetic presence. These bricks can be manufactured
to provide different colours if pigments are added during production. Concrete
bricks should not be used in below-ground applications.
Common uses for concrete bricks include:
• Fences
• Internal (hidden) brickwork
Green technology
The era of green tech is on the rise now, going neck and neck with an uptick
of innovative digital transformation. The integration of both, however, has
rarely been an option ever before. And only in recent years there has been
explosive growth in attempting to combine digital technology and
sustainability. Generally speaking, the concept is defined as a set of ecologically
safe and stable factors and principles that refer to the long-term perspective for
social and economic development. These initiatives are realized through a wide
range of digital technology implementation. Luminescent solar concentrators
catch both diffused and direct solar radiation. It is absorbed and turned into
electricity by narrow strips of photovoltaic cells, which are either sporadically
embedded in the plate or placed at the plate’s ends.
