INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR CABLE TRAY & TRUNKING
1. After the civil clearance to proceed with MEP installations, ensure that the area is clean and dry to start
Cable Tray/Trunking installation works.
2. Ensure all the relevant approved service and co‐ordination drawings shall be available at site prior to start
installation with installation team.

5. Mark the cable tray/trunking route as per approved coordinated shop drawing with chalk line powder on
the ceiling and ensure that these are of true horizontal and vertical runs only.
6. Coordinate the running route and level and ensure that there are no clashes with other services.
7. Maintain enough clearance (100mm) between the tray and the structure for cable pulling and general
maintenance.
8. Mark the supports; fix the supports with appropriate metal plugs, hot dip galvanized threaded rods, ‘C’
channels/Angle, stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers. Maintain distance between two supports not be
more than 1.0m and also shall provide adequate support at 150mm for bends, branches etc. As in case of
Low level the Cable Tray/Trunking will placed on cemented blocks in order to keep it at a height form FFL.
Joints should be positioned as close to the support as is practical. Shall use mushroom headed screws on
the cable route to avoid cable insulation damage during cable pulling.
9. Cut the standard length of cable trays/trunking to required length only along a line of plain metal and not
through perforations with appropriate cutting tools and fixing hole with drilling machine and fix the
necessary accessories.
10. Sets and bends shall be sized to allow for the minimum permissible radius of the largest cable on the tray.
Cable shall retain their relative positions on bends and sweeps.
11. All accessories including bends, intersections, tees, risers and reducing sections shall be of purpose‐made
by the tray manufacturer.
12. Connect two cable trays / trunking with joint coupler. Expansion couplers shall be provided at all building
expansion joints. Shall be provided with continuity strip link (earthing links) for every cable tray/trunking
joint to maintain continuity throughout the installation.
13. Care shall be taken to avoid any electrolytic action between dissimilar metals. Under no circumstances
shall any copper cable or fittings be direct in contact with galvanizing.
14. Box outs/sleeves shall be provided at all the wall crossing.
15. Approved fire sealant shall be provided wherever the installation crosses the fire rated walls.
16. Fire barriers shall be provided within the trunking at each crossing of fire wall or fire zone.
17. Apply spray paint over the cut edges of the trays, threaded rods and C‐Channel supports. Sharp edges
shall be removed before installation of cable tray.
18. Shall provide with identification labels as specified/approved to identify the service.
