MATH PETA SCRIPT 4th quarter

P1: Today we will be discussing about solving a problem using The Diagram of right triangle
using Trigonometry & Pythagorean Theorem.

P1: Right Triangle in Trigonometry is a triangle in which one angle is a right angle.

P1: We have three opposite sides this is Hypotenuse, Adjacent and Opposite.

P1: Hypotenuse is an opposite side from the right angle, also the largest side.

P1: Adjacent is another opposite side but from the unknown angle.

P1: While the Opposite is an opposite side from the given angle.

P2: Let's move on to the operations formula!

P2: Sine (sin) is the ratio of the Adjacent side over the Hypotenuse.

P2: Cosine (cos) is the ratio of the opposite side over the Adjacent side.

P2: The three trigonometric functions, COSECANTS(csc), SECANT(sec) and COTAGENT

(cot) are just the reciprocals of Sine, Cosine and Tangent.

P2: If we talk about Pythagorean Theorem, it is the square of the length of the Hypotenuse
of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides which
is the Adjacent and Opposite side.
P2: we use this to find the missing side of a right triangle, the formula for this is "a" squared
plus "b" squared equals "c" squared. (a² + b² = c²)

P3: Let's now try solving our problem!

P3: A person is standing 100 meters away from a tree. The angle of elevation from the
persons foot to the top of Tree is 30°. Find the height of the tree.

P3: Since we are looking for the height of a tree which is opposite of our degree and seeing
as we only have the Adjacent we use the Tangent Formula.

P3: Tangent Formula is Opposite over Adjacent (opp/adj), our Tangent degree is 30° while
100 meters is our Adjacent

P3: having a solution of "tan(30°)=a/100"

P3: inorder to get "a" (tree height)or the opposite side by itself we need to multiply both
sides by 100 or by itself, so 100 divided by tan(30°) equals "a" over "100" multiplied, will be
both cancelled.

(100 • tan(30°) = a/100• 100)

P3: so it leaves us with, "a" is equal to 100 divided by tan(30°).

(a= 100 • tan(30°) )

P3: We have to calculate "tan(30°)" in degree mode on our calculator.

P3: giving us a result of "0.5773" then we will multiply by 100 so the value of "a" is "57.73".
P3: thus "The height of the tree is 57.73 meters"

P?: As we look at our right triangle were still missing the value of our "c" or Hypotenuse
side, to find a missing side we need to use the pythogorean formula that is "a" squared plus
"b" squared equals "c" squared. (a² + b² = c²)

P?: so "a²" is the tree height 57.73 meters and our "b²" is the distance 100 meters.

P?: our equation now is "57.73² + 100² = c²"

P?: multiply both "a" and "b" by squared we will get.. for "a" 3333.052 + 10000 for "b" equals
"c²". (3333.052 + 10000= c²)

P?: add them it will give us "c²=13333.052" then take the square root giving us "c=115.520."

P?: thus "The Hypotenuse is c=115.520/115.52."
