Daily Lesson Log Grade 8 6

This document outlines a daily lesson plan for a science class covering Newton's third law of motion. The lesson includes reviewing previous concepts, presenting new material through videos and an activity, discussing examples, assessing student understanding through questions, and discussing applications of the concept. The goal is for students to understand and be able to describe Newton's third law of equal and opposite reaction forces.

Teacher Ela Anjell A. Vasquez Learning Area Science
Teaching Dates September 5, 2023 Grade Level 8
Time
Section Santos & Quisumbing

I-OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: B. Performance Standard: Learning Competency/ies:
The learners demonstrate The learners should be able to develop a written (S8FE-Ia-15)
understanding of Newton’s three plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics” The learners should be able to
laws of motion and uniform investigate the relationship between the
circular motion. amount of force applied and the mass of
the object to the amount of change in
objects motion.

Objectives:
1. State the third law of motion
2. Describe what will happen when one
object exerts force on another object.

II-CONTENT Module I: FORCES AND MOTION

IV- PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the Ask.
new lesson What is second law of motion?
What is the relationship between force, mass and acceleration?
What is free fall and how it is related to the 2nd law of motion?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Introduce the new lesson (Let the learners read the objectives of the new lesson)
C. Presenting illustrative examples/instances of Let the students watch a video clip on the Third law of motion.
the lesson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgqcGrB3re8
What was the video all about?
Give some situations where the law was applied.
D. Discussing the new concepts and practicing  Group the students into four and let them perform the balloon car activity. Refer to
new skills#1 separate sheet.
 Let the students present and explain their output in the concept of the third Law of
motion.
 Students will be rated based on the rubric. Present a rubric and together with
students revised it.
Explanation: The car demonstrates Newton’s 3rd Law of motion. When the air leaves the
balloon out the end of the straw, it pushes the car in the opposite direction.
E. Discussing new concepts and new skills #2 Let the students watch a video on the concepts of the third law of motion.

Discussion:
The third law of motion states that:“Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”
The statement means that in every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two
interacting objects. The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the
second object. The direction of the force on the first object is opposite to the direction of the
force on the second object. Forces always come in pairs - equal and opposite action-reaction
force pairs.

Note: Teacher may show pictures of action reaction forces.

F. Developing mastery(guides formative LET US CHECK!
assessment) 1.While driving down the road, a firefly strikes the windshield of a bus and makes a quite
obvious mess in front of the face of the driver. This is a clear case of Newton's third law of
motion. The firefly hit the bus and the bus hits the firefly. Which of the two forces is greater:
the force on the firefly or the force on the bus?
ANSWER: Each force is the same size. For every action, there is an equal ... (equal!). The
fact that the firefly splatters only means that it hass smaller mass, it is less able to withstand
the larger acceleration resulting from the interaction.
2. Many people are familiar with the fact that a rifle recoils when fired. This recoil is the result
of action-reaction force pairs. A gunpowder explosion creates hot gases that expand outward
allowing the rifle to push forward on the bullet. Consistent with Newton's third law of motion,
the bullet pushes backwards upon the rifle. The acceleration of the recoiling rifle is ...
a. greater than the acceleration of the bullet.
b. smaller than the acceleration of the bullet.
c. the same size as the acceleration of the bullet.
ANSWER: b. The force on the rifle equals the force on the bullet. Yet, acceleration depends
on both force and mass. The bullet has a greater acceleration due to the fact that it has a
smaller mass. Remember: acceleration and mass are inversely proportional.
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about Ask: What have you learned today?
the lesson

H. Finding Practical applications of concepts and Why is the third law of motion important?
skills in daily living ANSWER:Newton's 3rd law of motion is applicable wherever there is action-reaction force
pair. Like walking, shooting with a pistol, collision, rocket propelling, etc. Third law and other
laws of motion governs our day to day living and interaction.
I. Evaluation of Learning Say:
1. According to Newton's third law, for every action force there is an equal (in size) and
opposite (in direction) reaction forces. Forces always come in pairs - known as "action-
reaction force pairs."
A. True b. False
2. Describe the other force in the action-reaction force pair as presented in the picture below.

A. The glove pushes the baseball rightward.

B. The glove pushes the baseball upward.
C. The glove pushes the baseball downward.
D. None of the above.
3. Describe the other force in the action-reaction force pair as shown in the picture below.

A. Pin pushes bowling ball rightward.

B. Pin pushes bowling ball upward.
C. Pin pushes bowling ball downward.
D. None of the above.
4. Newton's third law states that for every action there is _____.
a.an equal and opposite reaction
b.an unbalanced force
c.an unequal and unbalanced force
d.an equal force pointing in the same direction
J. Additional activities for application or In each of the picture below, draw an arrow for action and reaction forces.
