Aim :

Software Engineering is the foundation for professional processes to be followed involving


principles, techniques, and practices for software development. The course provides a framework
for software professionals for building quality-assured software products. It enables students to
blend the domain-specific knowledge to create quality software products.

Introduction:
Hospitals are an essential part of our lives, providing the best medical facilities to people
suffering from various ailments, which may be due to changes in climatic conditions,
increased workload, emotional trauma stress, etc. It is necessary for the hospitals to keep track
of their day-to-day activities & records of their patients, doctors, nurses, ward boys, and other
staff personnel that keep the hospital running smoothly & successfully.

The main aim of our project is to provide a paperless hospital up to 90%. It also aims at
providing low-cost reliable automation of the existing systems. The system also provides
excellent security of data at every level of user-system interaction and also provides robust &
reliable storage and backup facilities.

The following subsections of the Software Requirement Specifications Document should


facilitate providing the whole overview of the Information system "Hospital Management
System" underdevelopment. This document aims at defining the overall software requirements
for admin.Efforts have been created to define the requirements of the Information system
exhaustively andaccuratel.

Purposed Methodology:

1) Problem Statement.

In this busy world we don’t have the time to wait in infamously long hospital queues.
The problem is, queuing at hospital is often managed manually by administrative staff,
then take a token there and then wait for our turn then ask for the doctor and the most
frustrating thing - we went there by traveling a long distance and then we come to know
the doctor is on leave or the doctor can’t take appointments.
HMS will help us overcome all these problems because now patients can book their
appointments at home, they can check whether the doctor they want to meet is
available or not. Doctors can also confirm or decline appointments, this help both
patient and the doctor because if the doctor declines’ appointment then patient will
know this in advance and patient will visit hospital only when the doctor confirms’ the
appointment this will save time and money of the patient.
Patients can also pay the doctor’s consultant fee online to save their time.
HMS is essential for all healthcare establishments, be it hospitals, nursing homes, health
clinics, rehabilitation centers, dispensaries, or clinics. The main goal is to computerize all
the details regarding the patient and the hospital. The installation of this healthcare
software results in improvement in administrative functions and hence better patient
care, which is the prime focus of any healthcare unit.
2) PROCESS MODEL:
Hospital Management System follows INCREMENTAL MODEL because initially software
requirements are reasonably well defined but the overall scope of development effort is a purely
linear process. There may be other requirements of the user which will be known later. So, those
requirements can the implemented and delivered in the following next increments. Our project is
a short term project of 3 months and 3 weeks only and staffing available is also low (3 persons).

1) The system automates the manual procedure of managinghospital activities.


2) Doctors can view their patients treatment records and details easily.
3) It even generates an instant bill.
4) The system is convenient and flexible to be used.
5) It saves their time, efforts, money and resources.

make payment after this system shall
show the generated bill by the hospital.

6 Doctor.  Admin. ADMIN : Can add a new doctor by


filling all the details after this system
shall show a confirmation message.

5) Software Requirement Specification(SRS)

A Software requirement specification(SRS),a requirement specification for a software system, is


complete description of behavior of a system to developed and may include set of use cases that
describes interactions the user will have with the software. In addition it also contains functional
and non-functional requirements .

Functional requirements are describe the specific functionalities and features that a software
system must possess. These requirements typically outline what the system should do in terms of
inputs, processes, and outputs. Examples include user authentication, data manipulation, and
system behavior under various conditions.

Non-functional requirements impose constraints of the design or Implementation (Such as


performance requirement engineering, Quality standards, or design constrains).

The following subsections of software requirements specifications document should facilitate in


providing the entire overview of the information system “hospital management system” under
development. This document aims at defining the overall software requirements for
admin.Efforts have been made to define the requirements of the information system exactly and
accurately.

6) Requirement Engineering:

Hospital management software is used to take the information from the patients and after that
keep it for later on uses the primary goal of the hospital management system is to accurately treat
in addition to decline overtime pay.

There are various attributes considered of in the hospital management system. A few of the
system operates consists of Registration, Client check up, report generation, as well as much
more. In this project, let’s have a look at the functional as well as non-functional requirements of
the hospital management system in death.
Functional Requirements.

There is a lot of software program demands specs includes in the functional need of the hospital
management system, which has different process, namely registration, check out, report
generation, and Database.

Patient Management: An Hospital management system primary function is to manage


patient data efficiently. Patients are enrolled, scheduled appointments, recorded medical
history, managed inpatient and outpatient records, and given unique identifiers. Hospitals
can maintain accurate and up-to-date information by utilizing a centralized patient
management system, which enables them to provide quality care and improve patient
outcomes.

Appointment and Scheduling: The Hospital management system must allow users
to schedule appointments with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare providers.
Effective appointment and scheduling management is vital for hospitals to ensure smooth
operations.Optimal utilization of healthcare providers’ time and preventing overcrowding
or delays in patient care are ensured by this functionality, which addresses appointment
conflicts, cancellations, and rescheduling.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR):Hospital management system provide electronic


medical records (EMR) functionality, which allows users to create, store, and retrieve
patient health records electronically. A patient’s demographics, medical history, lab
results, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes can all be captured.EMRs provide
healthcare providers with accurate and comprehensive patient information, which
facilitates better diagnosis, treatment, and continuity of care for patients.

Clinical Decision Support:A clinical decisio n support function within an Hospital


management system helps healthcare providers make informed decisions during diagnosis
and treatment. According to patient data, it can provide real-time recommendations and
alerts based on clinical guidelines and protocols.Its capabilities include alerting healthcare
providers to potential drug interactions, reminding them to take preventive measures, and
suggesting evidence-based treatment options. The use of clinical decision support
enhances patient safety, reduces medical errors, and promotes best practices in healthcare.

Medication and Pharmacy Management:Managing medication processes efficiently is


essential to the safety of patients and the efficiency of hospitals. Hospital pharmacy
inventory should be managed, medication orders and dispensing tracked, doses and
administrations should be accurate, and reports should be generated.Furthermore,
medication reconciliation should be supported to avoid errors during patient transitions
between healthcare settings.

Laboratory and Imaging Integration:An Hospital management system should integrate


with laboratory and imaging systems to streamline diagnostic processes. Healthcare
providers are able to order tests electronically, receive test results electronically, and keep
records of diagnostic images and procedures with this integration.With this functionality,
manual data entry is eliminated, errors are reduced, and diagnostics are sped up.
Managing Billing and Insurance:A Hospital management system should include
comprehensive features for managing billing and insurance. Invoices can be generated
accurately, insurance claims can be managed, payments can be tracked, and multiple
payment methods can be supported. Moreover, HIPAA, as well as other relevant
regulations, should be followed by the system.A hospital’s financial health improves when

patient safety.

Non-Functional Requirements:
There are a lot of software requirements specifications included in the non-functional
requirements of the Hospital Management System, which contains various processes, namely
Security, Performance, Maintainability, and Reliability.

Security:
● Patient Identification: The system needs the patient to recognize herself or himself using the
phone.
● Logon ID: Any users who make use of the system need to hold a Logon ID and password.
● Modifications: Any modifications like insert, delete, update, etc. for the database can be
synchronized quickly and executed only by the ward administrator.
● Administrator : The administrator can view as well as alter any information in the Hospital
Management Software.

Performance:
● Response Time: The system provides acknowledgment in just one second once the 'patient's
information is checked.
● Capacity: The system needs to support at least 1000 people at once.
● User-Interface: The user interface acknowledges within five seconds.
● Conformity: The system needs to ensure that the guidelines of the Microsoft accessibilities are
followed.

Maintainability:
● Back-Up: The system offers efficiency for data backup.
● Errors: The system will track every mistake as well as keep a log of it.

Reliability:
● Availability: The system is available all the time.
