1. Since we have no face-to-face classes, recall the time when you were high school or elementary. Does
your classrooms have areas for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books, student belongings,
supplies, etc). Describe these areas. Will it make a difference if these areas for specific purposes are not
present?
When I was in grade 10 I remembered that my adviser is so particular with cleanliness, she don't want to
see things messing around and she wanted everything to be arranged and well-organozed. That's why,
our batch's homeroom project is the built-in locker where each of us has our own storage where we can
put our personal things such as tumbler, clean slippers, books, notebooks and other things that can't be
put in the desk. Also, there's a box where we can hide the cleaning tools like broom and dustpan, so that
it won't distract us, the teachers and the visitors. For me, if there's no storage like what I've mentioned
earlier, maybe the classroom will look so messy and unorganized. As a result, it might distract the class,
therefore, it is possible that the teaching -learning environment will be interrupted. Just like some of the
classroom here in PCSHS, I noticed that there's no storage for their personal belongings, no box for
cleaning tools and the bin is so small.
2. Were there rules and procedures posted in the classroom? Do these rules reinforce positive behavior?
List down the rules.
Base on my observations, some classroom handled by my cooperating teacher has rules and procedures
posted on their bulletin board but some sections doesn't have because according to the students the
rules were only shown to them during the orientation in first day of class and it wasn't pasted in the wall
since it was prohibited. However, some of the rules I've seen are respect each other, listen when
someone is talking, speak politely, wait until you recognize and more. Also, there are positive quotes
pasted on the wall by famous ancient philosophers like Aristotle, Socrates, Plato ect. Those are just basic
rules and quotes, yet very impactful because it reinforces positive behavior. Whenever students see
those quotes, they be will motivated and encourage to strive harder. Also, when students see the rules
and it's corresponding consequence, they will refrain from doing bad things and will behave
appropriately. Through those rules and procedures accessibility, students are aware how should they
behave inside the classroom and well-informed about what particular attitudes they have to avoid.
3. What are the routines of the resource teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment, warm up activities)
How are they done?
My resource teacher starts her class with a prayer. As she enter the room, she will remain quite until the
students notice her and let them stand without saying any words and then she will as any volunteer to
lead the prayer. She will ask the volunteer student to pray from his/her heart without using the
memorized prayer. After the prayer, she will greet her students and vice versa. Before checking
attendance, if she noticed her class being sleepy, she will used five minutes of her time to energized her
students in a form of body stretching or a mind game. After that, she will formally start her lesson with
asking her students about what they've learned from yesterday or previous discussion. The teacher will
used the student's answer to connect with the new lesson. Usually, as I observe my cooperating teacher
loves collaborative learning where she always group her students and let them work together to finish
the tasks.
4. Does your classroom before have seating arrangement? What’s the basis of the arrangement? Does
this help in managing the class?
As what I've remember, when I was in grade 10, our adviser impose set plan and she put the printed set
plan on the teachers' table. Whoever sets in their classmates chair will be automatically marked as
absent. According to her, it was just how she discipline her students, also it would be easy for her to
identify whose absent since we are arranged alphabetically based on our surnames. I like the way how
she arrange her class because it makes us well-discipline students and prevent us from messing around.
Also, during my teaching internship I notice that some of the sections have their own arrangements and
some doesn't employ setting arrangement. My resource teacher separated her girl students from the
boys to prevent malicious actions. She put the boys at center row and the girl occupies the left and right
rows.
My cooperating teacher usually motivates her class through giving words of encouragement and before
she begin her formal lesson she make sure that everyone are energetic and ready to learn. She always
display and promote positive learning environment where she discusses and inform first her students
the house rules that students need to abide. Furthermore, when it comes to discipline she always let her
students express their thoughts, however they should wait until recognize and listen when someone is
talking. From that example of disciplinary actions taken by my cooperating teacher, I can really say that
she is reinforcing positive behavior where every students are aware and well-informed about how they
should behave inside the class.
REFLECTION
As a future educator it's important to teach your students how to behave appropriately and I believe it
will only be achieved through enforcing Positive discipline rather than giving punishment. As what I've
observe in my neighborhood, there are different family with different styles in raising children. Usually
family with authoritative parenting styles makes their children well behave in or outside the room
because they're afraid of the punishment. Well, in some point it makes sense because it makes the child
behave nicely however it also makes the child remain dependent when it comes to decision making and
will only do what is being ask because of fear. Because of that evident scenario which I usually
encounter, as a future educator I'll try my best to enforce positive discipline. So that my students will
make what is right not because I command them to do or they're afraid to be punished but because they
know the value of doing good action. Also, for me positive discipline is better than giving punishment
because it has several advantage, like teaching the students to be responsible and to have self control.
Letting the students make their own decision and making them realize that they are fully liable for the
consequence of their action. By that, I'm not the one asking them to be a good person but their
experience make them realize what behavior they should keep and what they should refrain. In
addition, it's important to guide and correct the behavior of students as early as possible so that they
won't carry it out when they grow up.
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior?
Classroom organization and routines have a significant impact to the learner's behavior as it gives
comfort and increased students' confidence. For example, the teacher's way to organize the classroom is
by orienting them first about the house rules, therefore the students already know what is expected on
them. By that, there would be no conflict and misunderstanding because they already aware of what to
do. Another thing, let's say for example the students already know your routine as you conduct your
class. Therefore, as you enter the classroom, your students will immediately go back to their respective
chairs and someone will immediately go in front to lead the prayer. In that way, even you didn't tell
them what to do, they already know the flow and the process. So, I therefore conclude that classroom
organization and routines are very important because it doesn't only comfort students and set clear
expectations but also trained them to be responsible, prevent misbehave students and most importantly
it promotes positive learning environment.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when he/she designs the classroom organization and routines?
What theories and principles should you have in mind?
I think a teacher must consider a lot factor when designing classroom structure like students' needs and
interest. Also, teacher must not solely rely on theories or principles when designing classroom
organization and routines and should not focus on one theory only but as many as possible. Example, if
you only used behaviorist theory you're just focusing on the behavior, so how about their cognitive
ability, so you need to be guided with several theories like behaviorist, humanist and cognitivist to
promote their hoslitc capability. Most importantly , for me the best source that the teacher must used
as a basis is his/her own experience because I believe that through the years of teaching, teacher
already know what's best design for the classroom that is effective and what routines best help mold the
students behavior. Also, be a teacher that is open for change, if you notice that your design or routines
is not effective anymore then create and innovate something new which will fit to their behavior.
3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In motivating
students? Why were they effective?
In managing the learner's behavior you as a teacher, you must set yourself as a good example or rule
model. You're with the students frequently, therefore they spend longer time with the teachers
compared to the people in their house. They try to act and immitate the behavior they usually observe,
so as a teacher you should promote positive relationship with the students to avoid disrupted behavior.
By showing them your positive strategy upon imposing disciplinary action without force and
punishment, students are given the previledge to act on their own and solve the consequence alone. It
will leave them the realization of their action so that the second time around, they will become more
careful and responsible upon making decisions. As a result, conflict, misunderstanding and disrupted
behavior will be avoided.
REFLECTION
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade year level do you see yourself.
What section? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?
I imagine myself teaching in junior highschool students with no particular section. Soon, as I become a
licensed professional teacher I will make an effective and efficient routines and procedure that will help
me in shaping and molding my student's behavior. I will set clear expectations by stating and informing
them first the house rules. If they are aware about the classroom's dos and donts, they will be guided on
what particular behavior they should and should not display. In addition, part of setting expectation is by
orienting the students about the flow of your class. When I become a teacher, I'll make my students
aware on how I'm going to facilitate the class. For example, I will instruct them that as I enter the room
it should be clean, chairs are well arrange and no messy things around. Everyone should follow the
setting arrangement to easily identify the absent. Attendance will be check after the prayer, afterwards
we will be having an activity before the formal lesson. Then during the discussion, I'll be throwing
questions for them to analyze the topic and afterwards, we'll try to apply the lesson. So that's the
process on how I plan to conduct my class and I will let my students know it first so that they won't be
confused. Also, in that way they are aware on what is expected on them.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these rules?
The rules I wanted to implement are respect one another, raise hand if you have something to say, wait
until you recognize and listen when someone is speaking. These rules will help me discipline my students
specially at their grade level where obedience and following rules must be seen and must they practice
at their age and grade level. It's vital to make the students follow these rules to improve their social
skills and ofcourse their academic performance.
Defiinitely yes, learners should be involved in making class rules because it's important for them to feel
empowered by letting them give their own opinion about what best rules for them, so that it will be fair
not just to the teachers but everyone could benefit from it. Moreover, making rules together with the
students starts an open relationship, productive communication and a positive learning environment.
Also, once they are involved in the making process they are more likely to follow it.
