Year 4 Communication March 2023

Our Independent School Exams’ results have far exceeded all our own
previous records! All our students who took private school exams have
received exciting offers. Some of our students have received jaw-
dropping scholarships. Yes, that’s another year with 100% results for
Independent Schools. Their preparation classes were ran by Mrs Leila B
whilst I conducted the interview prep.

Here are a list of schools we have succeeded in getting students

into:
Whitgift St Paul’s School
Trinity City of London School
Old Palace Habdashers’ Aske’s
Croydon High Merchant Taylors’
Sutton High Goldophin & Latymer
Caterham Latymer Upper School
Reigate Grammar Hampton School
Woldingham Westminster School
Cedars Eton
Royal Russell
Epsom College
London Freemans
Kings College
Dulwich College

National Offer Day was also another momentous celebration for

us. You will remember that I wrote in October with our Grammar
School Results. I am so pleased to inform you that majority of our
students got offered their first choice. We hope that we have
prepared them to be kind and hard-working, no matter what school
they go to. Well done our little stars!

2.

We are off from Mon, 10th April to Sun, 16th April, both dates
inclusive. There will be no lessons during these days.
3.

Your child will be having a formal assessment on topics taught from

September to March during the week from Tuesday 28th March to
Monday 3rd April. The test will be during their weekly lesson. The
syllabus is attached. The online class will get a link to upload the
completed papers as soon as the exams are finished.

They will have a Maths paper, a comprehension paper, a writing task

and a spelling test. There will not be a grammar test. Spellings are not
from any list, they are based on KS2 curriculum so testing their
reading skills as well.

Face to face class teachers will mark, record the scores and return the
papers after the Easter break. We are off from 10th to 16th April. Online
class will be emailed the marked papers after the Easter break.

The week after the exams we go through the papers in class. We will not
be revising before the exam. We will soon be done with the syllabus and
will start revision from mid-April to the end of July.

We may have to move some children around (change weekly slots) if

they are very much above or below their class’ performance. The next
formal assessment will be their End of Year 4 Exam on the 9th July. All
details of this test can be seen on the last page of the Learning
Agreement that was provided when you joined, and also attached to this
email. They will have mini-tests regularly.

4.
We aim to complete the core syllabus by the end of April.
Then from May to September we will revise each topic again
along with teaching harder, more complex Key Stage 2
topics. Homework will be topic based till April. Then from Mid-
April to September we will provide homework on mixed topics
that are revised.

You can help by making sure your child can add, subtract,
multiply and divide in a speedy manner. Please also make
sure they know their timetables till 12.

5. Grammar School Registrations: These don’t open till May of Year 5. I

will provide you with detailed instructions, a spreadsheet with all the
dates and all other relevant information and deadlines nearer the time.

7. Text Books: There will be two additional books we would need you to
purchase before May. Details will be emailed next week.

8. Spellings:

There will be random, unannounced spelling tests at regular

intervals.

9. Reading:

I would like your child to read books that will help them with
vocabulary, language and making inferences.

List 1: reluctant reader, easier books

ks2-age-9-10/
We will be checking with your child on their progress with reading
the above and having regular discussions in class.
I would encourage your child to read a weekly newspaper such as
First News https://www.firstnews.co.uk

10. Learn2write – please ensure your child completes weekly writing 3

days before their weekly lesson, you upload it immediately so that it
gives us enough time to mark before the next lesson. I will be assigning
new work every Monday. But you should wait till after their weekly lesson
before you ask them to attempt it. Any queries should be emailed to
[email protected] and copy me in.

Learn2write Award Scheme

Next set of vouchers from December 2022 to February 2023 will be sent

11. Safeguarding: A reminder that parents are not allowed to wander

We were inspected by OFSTED with no notice late last year. We don’t
