(ASSIGNMENT-2)
Note:

Students need to submit their assignment neatly on A4 pages
Q.1 The speed and torque required of DC motor driving a load vary as follows:
(i) Speed increases linearly up to l rps for 15 min. from standstill. The speed
remains constant upto 115 min. then decreases linearly to zero at 130 min.
(ii) Torque of 0.8 N-m for 15 min. (constant torque). Then suddenly decreases to
0.47 N-m for no time. Then it decreases linearly to - 0.1 N-m at 115 min. and
suddenly increases to 0.4 N-m with no time, further remaining constant up
to 130 min. and then decreases to zero suddenly.
Find the mean continuous rating of motor based upon equivalent torque and
equivalent power.
Q.2 Aconstant speed drive has the following duty cycle load rising from 0 to 400KW

Uniform load of 400 +X KW-5min
Repetitive power of 400+X KW

3) Calculate the motor speed at the rated torque and «=1600 for the
regenerative braking in the II quadrant.

is 750rpm and it has a slip of 10%. When delivering 1400 N-m torque. The
total
moment of inertia of the flywheel & the other rotating parts is 2100 kg-m² Draw
the cçrves showing the torque exerted by the motor & the speed for the fire

Q.8 A drive has following parameters: -
J= 10Kg-m², T = 15 +.05N, N-m. TË= 5+0.6N, N-m N=speed(rpm)
Initially, the drive is working in steady state, now the drive is braked by electrical
braking. Torque of the motor in braking is given by T=-10-0.04N, N-m. Calculate
time taken by the drive to stop.
Q.9 A drive has following parameter:
J= 10kg-m', T = 100-0. 1N, N-m
Passive load torque, T;= 0.05 N, N-m, where Nspeed in rpm. Initially, the drive
is operating in steady state. Now it is to be reversed. For this motor char's is
changed to Tm =-100-0.1N, N-m. Calculate the time of reversal.
Q10 |A 220volts, 1500 rpm, 10 amps separately excited DC motor has an armature
resistance of 1.X Q. It is fed from a single phase fully controlled bridge rectifier
with an AC source voltage of 230 volts, at 50 Hz. Assuming continuous load
current, compute:
i) The motor speed at firing angle of 30° and torque of 5.X N-m.
i) Calculate developed torque at the firing angle of 450 and speed of 1000 rpm.
Q.11 The speed of a 220 V, (3730+10X) kW, and 1000 rpm dc shunt motor is controlled
by a single-phase full-converter. The ac supply is 240 V, 50 Hz. A very large
inductance is connected in series with the armature. Assume the motor and
converter to be lossless. The motor emf constant is 1.9 V.s/rad. For a speed of
1000rpm and rated motor current, determine
i) The firing angle of the converter
ii) The rms value of supply current
iii) The supply power factor.
Q.12 A220 volts, 1000 rpm, 10 amps separately excited DC motor is fed fron a single
phase fully controlled bridge rectifier with an ACsource voltage of 230 volts, at
50Hz. Assuming l¡is continuous and an armature resistance of 1.X Q. Calculate
firing angle
i) At half rated torque at 500 rpm.
ii) At half rated torque at -500 rpm.
Q.13 Aseparately excited DC motor fed from three-phase semi converter develops full
Joad torque at 1500 rpm when firing angle is zero. The armature taking 50.XA
at 400 VDC and having Ra of 0.5X. Calculate AC supply voltage per phase. Find
also the range of firing angle required to give speed between 1500 rpm and 750
rpm at full load torque.
Q.14 The speed of DC series motor is controlled by a 3-phase semi converter connected
to 3-phase, 400 V, 50 Hz. The motor constant of 0.4 volt sec.JAmp. rad. Total
speed and Ra is 1 2. Assuming continuous and ripple free armature current at
firing angle of 400 and speed of 1000 rpm. Determine
i) la & motor torque
ii) Power delivered to the motor.
