Lesson Using Common Action Words

1 in Retelling, Conversations,
etc.
Some words tell things that we can do. We call them
verbs. Verb is also called an action word that describes
what the subject is doing or the condition of the subject.
A verb tells us the body movement of a person or an
animal. It tells what girls and boys can do like you.
A verb or action word is a very important part of a
sentence. It tells the doer’s actions, events, or state of
being. We use these words to communicate about the
different events in our lives.

What’s In

Let’s see how well you have understood your

previous lesson about verbs.
Match each picture with its sentence that tells the
action. Write the letter of the correct answer on your
paper.

1.

A. Noel eats nutritious food.

4
2. B. Manny drinks a glass of water.

C. Ronnie sweeps the floor.

3.

D. The monkey climbs.

4.

E. Bessy dances.

5.

F. Liza plays

5
Notes to the Teacher
The teacher must consider the prerequisite skills
such as reading comprehension, and knowledge about
verbs needed in the development of this competency
including the schema or background knowledge which
may reinforce learning. This module will help the learners
bridge the gap of learning to attain mastery of the lesson
in its spiral progression.

What’s New

Do you like playing? What are the things that you do?
Let’s see if you have the same activities just like the
children in the short story below.
Read and retell the story.
Playing Time
by: Marietta L. Manayag

6
It is Saturday morning. The Santos family enjoys their
time at the park. Let’s read their conversation and see
what they do and say.
“Marco let’s kick the ball,” said Mark.
“Fe, come and join me. It’s nice to slide here.” Liza
invited.
“I love playing on this swing,” Fe replied.
While Letty and Eddie play in the sand, mother and
father reminded their children.
“Enjoy and be careful.”
Write the correct action words on paper to complete
the activity.
1. The Santos family (enjoys, thinks) their time at the park.
2. Marco and Mark (catch, kick) the ball.
3. Liza invited Fe to join her, but Fe (hates, loves) to play
on the swing.
4. Letty and Eddie (play, stay) in the sand.
5. Mother and father (reminded, invited) their children to
be careful.

What is It

In telling stories or talking to someone we use verbs to

create a clear picture of what is being talked about and
the action being done. Here is an example of a short story
which can be retold using common action words. Now,
let us read the short story.
