Comparatives Superlatives
Comparatives are used to compare Superlatives are used to compare more
two things or two people: than two things or two people.
We usually use ‘than’: Superlative sentences usually use 'the':
Alan is taller than John. Alan is the tallest in his class.
1.One- Syllable Adjectives - To form the comparative, we add -er often followed
by than. To form the superlative, we usually add the and -est .

2. Two-Syllable Adjectives ending in –Y
To form the comparative, we remove the -y and add -ier to the end of the adjective.
To form the superlative, we remove the -y and add -iest to the end of the adjective.

3. Adjectives ending consonant+vowel+consonant double last consonant.
big bigger than the biggest
wet wetter than the wettest
4. Adjectives with two or more syllables
For Adjectives with 2 syllables and more (that don't end in -y), we use more for
comparatives and the most for superlatives.

Similarities Mike is as intelligent as Nancy. Brad is as handsome as Ryan.
