Iloilo River Esplanade is a promenade and linear park along the Iloilo River, created as part
of the Iloilo River Rehabilitation Project. It is the largest linear park in the Philippines and
was designed by the landscape architect Paulo Alcazaren. The esplanade is one of a kind
in the country that aims to foster biodiversity, store carbon by mangroves and provide
protection from possible flood damages. Furthermore, the project aspires to build a lifestyle
hub for the locals and promotes educational eco-tourism. The site was an existing dike road
devoid of shade and originally built just as a flood control measure. The redesign has
showcased its effect on public amenities, received several recognitions and has become a
magnet for tourists in this city

OFBank Center, 1000 Liwasang Bonifacio 1000, Ermita, Manila, 1000 Metro Manila

The genesis of the Pasig River Esplanade was rooted in a collective

vision to heal and revitalize the waterway, transforming it into a vibrant
artery of life at the heart of Manila. Planners, architects,
environmentalists, and the community converged on a shared dream: to
craft spaces that encourage interaction, recreation, and contemplation
along the riverbanks. Renowned architect and city planner Paulo
Alcazaren has also been tapped as a consultant for the designs of the
rest of the Pasig river’s rehabilitation project.

The vision for the project was built on principles of sustainability and
inclusivity, mirroring the diverse tapestry of Manila's urban landscape. It
aimed to stitch together ruptured connections between the city's spaces
and its people, offering a refuge in the bustling metropolis. Through
careful planning and innovative design, the esplanade was poised to
become a beacon of sustainable urban living, blending modernity with
nature's resilience.

West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade

Kowloon, Hongkong

The West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade, which features the longest

harbour-front timber boardwalk in Hong Kong. The promenade is the first
project completed under the direction of the Harbour-front Enhancement
Committee to offer access to the waterfront for public enjoyment. Situated at
the southern tip of West Kowloon, the promenade occupies a site of 20,000
square metres. Along the waterfront is a timber walkway 400 metres long and
six metres wide. The timber walkway and nearby lawns provide an excellent
vantage point to take in the spectacular scenery of Victoria Harbour. It is a
great place for families to gather.

The promenade is also decorated by 70 four-metre-high triangular lighting

towers that form a one-kilometre-long "Dragon of Lanterns" winding along the
timber boardwalk, then onto the lawn and footpath leading to the entrance.
Adopting an environmentally friendly design, the promenade is a refreshing
space created in the most cost-effective and sustainable way: renovated old
containers to house toilets and a management office; abandoned seating
benches have been fixed and recycled; the boardwalk has been paved with
low-cost, unfinished timber boards; and demolition debris has been recycled
for use as concrete.

Apart from the timber boardwalk, lawn and footpath, facilities at the
promenade include a landscaped area, children's play area and sand pit,
pergola and cycling track. The promenade is also equipped with a metered
carpark, which provides 30 private-car spaces and two coach spaces.

Queen Elizabeth Walk

Esplanade Park, Downtown Core District of Central Area of Singapore

Adjoining the mouth of the Singapore River on its northern bank was the
seafront promenade known as Queen Elizabeth Walk. Covering an area of
around 9.5 acres, the nearly-completed promenade was officially opened
on 30th May 1953, the Coronation Day of Queen Elizabeth II, and named
in honour of the Queen. Built using the money collected to erect a
memorial honouring those who died in the Second World War, the
revamped promenade was considered part of the Esplanade area opposite
the Padang (Malay for ‘flat field’) that was built on reclaimed land in 1943.
The promenade was a popular hangout for people to stroll and enjoy the
sea view, which has since been blocked by the Esplanade Bridge and the
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay arts and entertainment complex. Besides
the Walk, other notable landmarks in the area included the Esplanade
Park, the Cenotaph, the Tan Kim Seng Fountain, the Lim Bo Seng
Memorial, and the Satay Club hawker centre.
