#1 What do you think is our topic
today?
Our topic today is all about non-
communicable diseases, ma’am.
Probably!
Non-communicable disease
(NCD), also known as chronic
diseases, are not passed from
person to person. They are of long
duration and generally slow
progression. The four main types
of non-communicable diseases are
a medical condition or disease that
can be defined as non-infectious
and non-transmissible among
people.
Asthma
A chronic disease in which the
bronchial airways in the lungs
become narrowed and swollen,
making it difficult to breathe.
Causes: such as pet dander, dust
mites, cockroaches and mold.
Symptoms: include wheezing,
coughing, tightness in the chest,
shortness of breath, and rapid
breathing.
Allergy
It is where your body reacts to
something that's normally
harmless like pollen, dust or
animal fur.
Causes: Airborne allergens, such
as pollen, animal dander, dust
mites and mold.
Symptoms:
Runny nose or sneezing.
Coughing, wheezing or
breathlessness.
Itchy skin or a raised rash
Diarrhea.
Swollen eyes, lips, mouth
or throat.
Heart Disease
Refers to several types of heart
conditions.
Causes: high blood pressure,
high cholesterol, and smoking.
Symptoms: Chest pain, pain,
indigestion, heartburn, nausea or
vomiting, extreme fatigue,
dizziness, and shortness of breath.
Diabetes
It is a chronic, metabolic disease
characterized by elevated levels of
blood glucose (or blood sugar).
Causes:
Overweight
Genes and family history
Insulin resistance
Hormonal diseases.
Not getting enough
exercise
Symptoms:
Thirsty urinate (pee) a lot
Lose weight without trying
Very hungry.
Have blurry vision.
Have numb or tingling
hands or feet.
Feel very tired.
Have very dry skin.
Cancer
It is a disease in which some of
the body's cells grow
uncontrollably and spread to other
parts of the body.
Causes:
Tobacco use, alcohol
consumption, unhealthy diet,
physical inactivity and air
pollution.
Symptoms:
Unexplained weight loss
Fever
Fatigue
Skin changes
Unusual bleeding or
discharge
