History of Cariñosa Dance
It was during the 15th century that Philippines was colonized for the first time by the Spanish.
The dance soon spread around the Philippines, giving rise to different versions in different
regions, such as in Bicol, where both dancers carry handkerchief.
Maria Clara is portrayed as a noble and loyal woman, who after the publication of the novel
in the 19th century became the Female symbol of virtue for Filipina woman.
It was originated in the Panay Islands.
I will show you a video demonstration that executes the figures in Cariñ osa dance.
