B. Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate and solve practical problems involving probability of simple
events.
C. Learning Competencies At the end of the lesson, each learner should be able to:
 Find the probability of simple events.
II. CONTENT Probability of Simple Events
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Pages
2. Learners’ Material
Pages
3. Textbook Pages
4. Additional Materials
from Learning Resource Portal
B. Other Learning Resources Visual aids, chalkboard, chalk, cardboards, flashcards, ppt from unknown sources
IV. PROCEDURES Facilitator’s Activity Learners’ Activity
A. Reviewing previous “Good morning/afternoon class.” The students will greet back.
lesson or presenting the new
lesson “Say present if your name is called.”
The teacher will call each names for the attendance.

“What have we discussed last meeting? Anyone

from the class who can give some recapitulation.” A student will response.

B. Establishing a purpose “For this lesson, our objectives will be the following. A student will read the objectives
for the lesson Kindly read.” pasted on the board.

C. Presenting “We will be having a game.”

examples/instances of the WIKARAMBULAN
new lesson The teacher will flash a word that sounds near to a
word related to probability when read. The students
will have to guess the words as fast as they can. Answers
1. I bends 1. Events
2. Sum polls pays 2. Sample space
3. Ouch come 3. Outcomes
4. Duh hays 4. dice
5. Prove bubble lay tee 5. Probability
6. Hecks pair remain 6. Experiment

D. Discussing new concepts Probability of Simple Events

and practicing new skills #1
P(event)= number of ways event can occur
total number of outcomes
Example 1: Rolling a die

What is the probability of rolling a 4?

“How many number 4 are there in a die?” A student will response.
“How many faces or numbers are there in a single
die?” A student will response.
So, therefore
P(rolling a 4) = 1/6
The probability of rolling a 4 is 1 out of 6.

Example 2: Drawing a card from a standard deck of

cards
What is the probability of drawing a 7 of diamonds?
“How many cards are there in a standard deck of
cards?” A student will response.
“How many 7 of diamonds are there?” A student will response.
“So, what will be the probability?” A student will solve in the board.
“Very good.”

E. Discussing new concepts “Let’s try more challenging examples.”

and practicing new skills #2 Example 3:
What is the probability of rolling an even number in
a die?
“How many even numbers are there in the faces of
a die?” A student will response.
“So, what will be the probability of getting an even
number?” A student will solve on the board.

Example 4:
“What is the probability of getting an 8 number in
rolling a die?” A student will solve on the board.

Example 5:
What is the probability of drawing a card that is not
a spade in a standard deck of cards?
“So, what will be the probability of getting a card
that is not a spade?” A student will solve on the board.
“How about getting a black diamond?” A student will response.
“Excellent.”

F. Developing mastery Guided Practice: Flashing Game

(Leads to Formative This game requires fast thinking and speed in
Assessment 3) computation. The class will be divided into four.
Each group will be given a cardboard and a chalk.
Using the figure below, they will answer questions.
The first three groups to flash the correct answer
will be the one to get the points. The group to
obtain the highest score will be the winner.

Calculate the probability of each event. Answers

1. P(black) 1. 8/16 or ½
2. P(1) 2. 1/16
3. P(odd numbers) 3. 8/16 or ½
4. P(prime numbers) 4. 6/16 or 3/8
5. P(not black) 5. 8/16 or ½
6. P(6 and 9) 6. 2/16 or 1/8
7. P(composite numbers) 7. 9/16
8. P(multiple of 4) 8. 4/16 or ¼

9. P(divisible by 5) 9. 3/16
10. P(divisible by 3) 10. 5/16

G. Finding practical Real World Example:

application of concepts and Teacher Vanessa is having a VIVO cellphone
skills in daily living giveaway. I put all the VIVO cellphone in a bag. Her
students may choose an IPOD without looking at the
color. Inside the bag are 4 orange, 5 blue, 6 green,
and 5 pink VIVO cellphone. If you choose one VIVO
cellphone at random, what is the probability she will
choose an orange VIVO cellphone? A student will solve on the board.

H. Making generalizations “Do you have any questions? Or something to clarify

and abstractions about the from our discussion today?”
lesson “Did you fully understand our lesson?” A student will response.

“Again, how can you get the probability of an event?

What formula did we use?” A student will response.
“Very good. I see that you are ready for evaluation
for today.”

I. Evaluating Learning “In a ¼ sheet of paper, find the following using the
figure below.”

Answers
1. P(blue) 1. 7/22
2. P(not yellow) 2. 17/22
3. P(green) 3. 5/22
4. P(not pink) 4. 1
5. P(red) 5. 5/22

J. Additional activities or Assignment The students will copy their assignment.

application or remediation Answer the following.
A computer company manufactures 2,500
computers each day. An average of 100 of these
computers are returned with defects. What is the
probability that the computer you purchased is not
defective?
