Debate Topics: Resolving Organizational Mismanagement at Magma Beauty International.

Introduction

Magma beauty International faced a challenge in their operation due to a wrong order made by

the purchasing team and due to the lack of proper checking and verification from the finance and

sales department that led to deep analysis into its difficulties. The principal goal of this meeting

is to collect ideas and insights from each department manager which is very important for

implementing effective crisis management, to emphasize the importance and power of cross-

functional collaboration, and to give highlight or impact the importance of leadership’s

responsibility in promoting a culture responsibility, accountability and continues enhancement

that may led to more smooth sailing operation. This reflection paper study take part in the key

learnings from what we have discussed in class in organizational behavior starting in Chapter 1

to Chapter 5 that involves diversity factors, structural principles, perception into individual

differences, work attitude examinations, and study of motivations theories. The purposes of this

study are to examine the Magma Beauty International circumstances over guidelines of
organizational behavior, getting educational view to monitor and manage strategic approaches

for future action and decision for the purpose of improving the resiliency and adaptability of the

organization.

Examining the Circumstances

The dilemma is originated from purchasing team, when the purchasing coordinator is mistakenly

placing a wrong order and this is obviously happened due to managerial oversight that led to

challenges in their operations including the shortage of storage in the warehouse due to the

overstocks, pressure on company financial status, and a significant sales pressure. Chains of

strategic measures are required to resolve this crisis and those are encouraging quick sales by

doing promotion, reorganizing the order fulfillment process quickly, initiating strategic

marketing campaigns, negotiating with supplier for possible products returns, considering short

term financing to manage the cash flow and forming a task group that works across departments.

To address this challenge Magma Beauty International needs to use a strategic approach like

agile crisis management strategies to resolve the issue.

Understanding on Organizational Behavior

In times of difficulties, clear, precise, and effective communication, and coordination with each

other are very important. The challenges illustrated in the debate become a key factor for

organizational learning and demonstrated how to improve by highlighting the necessity of a

strong organizational toolbox. It emphasizes that having lapses to communicate and to coordinate

will lead to breakdown like what happen to Magma Beauty International when each department
missed to do their prospective responsibility like verification, coordination, and consultation.

This evidence shows that a deep understanding of organizational behavior at each level is very

important. Like what watched in the debate, mismanagement of inventory, and cash flow created

a serious problem that required complex analysis to resolve. Using organizational behavior

research approaches like interviews, debate, survey will help to know the real cost of the

problem. Knowing the difference between correlation and causation is also important to identify

the main issue and put the right and legal solution with the help of each involved member in the

organization.

Affect and Effect of Diversity in the Organization

Diversity has two faces, that could be beneficial or challenging in the organization. Both are

showcased in this scenario when each manager gives their different reactions, feedback, and

recommendation. However, because of the diversity in organization this help bringing new idea

or suggestions in the table using different insights and at the same time no stereotyping because

they value and respect each opinion and suggestion and they work together to solve the problem

without thinking the gender or the nationality of the suggester. Getting along with and working

as a team is very important in the organization and awareness of diversity improves the

company’s culture.

Different Perceptions

In the situation of Magma Beauty International, it illustrates that every employee sees the

condition in their own way, and this shows that recognition of everyone’s perspective is
important. To handle the situation without any fights, it is important to know each other’s

personalities and beliefs. Some tools like Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Big Five (OCEAN)

will help to form a tailored strategy. Thinking that your above others or your thoughts are better

than others’ ideas will always lead to trouble, misunderstanding and making quick judgement

about your colleague. That’s why it is so important to know that this is wrong practice and

instead learn how to appreciate and accept individual different points of view. This organization

will have a harmonious workplace where equality is practiced, and they give importance to each

idea, opinion and suggestion that help to have a better way of dealing with crises.

Managing Crisis and Solution

Another important thing I learned in this debate is how Magma Beauty International understands

the importance of good handling of how people see things from their own view. As I’ve

mentioned earlier, tools like Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Big Five (OCEAN) help to

understand each team member’s temperament behaviors and to come up with specialized

methods on how to deal and solve the situation. A better approach to managing crisis is

welcoming, respecting and valuing all kinds of suggestions, feedback, and recommendations. In

terms of problem solving, the department head showed a robust idea in planning on how they

will solve the situation quickly and making sure not to happen same scenario in the future.

Leadership

In navigating crisis, leadership is very important in forming teams from different divisions to

plan with solutions. In this scenario, I learned how leaders take significant value in leading
companies during hard times, managing different options that help current and future issues.

Creating this team illustrates smart leadership strategy, highlighting the importance of teamwork

and collective action. A good leader encourages everyone to have ownership, responsiveness and

to be part and have a say in decisions. In this debate, it’s obviously seen that all department

managers are actively involved and participated in resolving the issue using their different ideas

considering on how this will affect in each department operations and to the whole company’s

operation.

Organizational Learning and Morale

Workers and companies should keep morale high by doing things in an ethical way. Letting

different departments get involved and showing appreciation for their good work will help them

to feel that they are important in the company, and they are working together to reach a common

goal. During the crisis, working together to have better solutions is keeping everyone motivated

and moving forward. Because of this crisis, Magma Beauty International and I learned valuable

lessons.

Impact of Work Attitudes

During hard times, keeping a positive attitude at work will play a vital role in helping every

employee stay motivated and actively involved in resolving the issue. To get across this crisis,

every employee needs to be happy, motivated with their job and committed to the company. The

employee working in positive environment leads to willingness to do extra mile, helping

colleagues to finish deadline task, initiate to work more and do the job with care, more
committed in the company, lastly, they will initiate to give suggestions, ideas and thought on how

to solve the crisis or how to improve the current process. Organization needs to understand what

impact these positive attitudes like having right employee to the right position or task, having

interesting and challenging job that keep employee work with challenge and learning and

company equality or fairness treatment to every employee.

Accountability

Different departments in a company are interconnected and should work together with one

common goal. In the debate shows that each department manager knows their role,

responsibility, and accountability in the current crisis, and they show willingness to work

together and plan on ow to fix the problem. In this scenario, the leaders show how important it is

to take responsibility, be accountable and work together instead of blaming and accusing each

other.

Motivation and Action

Using different motivation theories like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, expectancy theory,

equality theory, and reinforcement theory help to build a culture of resolving problems. Using

these theories of motivations will help each employee to see the company equality and fairness

that might motivate them and inspire them to participate actively in finding the best solution on

each problem. Like what happened in Magma Beauty International, using some different theories

of motivation like Maslow’s theory that focus on tackling about the basic needs and higher-level

needs to keep the company motivated and keep on going to find solution and do what best to the
company. Then the Equity and expectancy theory that looks at the process which helps employee

to understand and see fairness and help to motivate them to keep helping each other in times of

crisis. Reinforcement theory is also beneficial to the company, giving the employee positive

feedback if they do right or for their good behavior that will inspire them to be proactive and

continue participating in problem solving by providing new ideas.

Personal Reflection and Lessons I Learned

Analyzing and looking back about Magma Beauty International, I learned various important

lessons like the major importance of good communication and understanding different point of

views, the importance of how to handle the crisis well, the vital role of strong leadership and

continues improvement. In this scenario shows the importance of open, clear, and precise

communication and teamwork and collaboration in the organization are vital to avoid more big

issues and other possible problems on the operations. Handling crisis well means blaming won’t

help but bring up innovative ideas, creative solution and smart decision making will help the

company to resolve the issue quickly and bounce back. In tough situations, leadership and

teamwork are crucial, it requires active participation and involvement, everyone should share the

same goal and work collaboratively to resolve the issue and recover. Then, every crisis opens

new learning and opportunities, like the importance of continues improvement in every aspect of

the business operation, standing open to any changes especially if this will lead to continues

improvement of the company growth.

Conclusion
Magma Beauty International’s latest problem shows detailed information on how the

organizational behavior elements play a vital role in the success of the organization. Those are

leadership, crisis management, clear communication, teamwork and collaboration, positive

culture and continues learning. This case study illustrated an intense outline on how to deal with

complicated challenges and making a positive working environment indicated by teamwork,

collaboration, agility, resilience, accountability, commitment to continues improvement and

resolving the issue together. It also shows the organization’s concentration goes more than just

preventing crises but to commit in continues growth. They emphasize the significance of

responding effectively, learning from this experience to become more resilient and stronger. I

realize how important it is to the company to have culture with open communication, teamwork,

collaboration, shared responsibility, and committing to continues learning and improvement. To

support the unending growth of the company I recognize that teamwork, collaboration, and

leadership strategies provide significant insights for handling difficult situations. By

incorporating organizational theories into the analysis of Magma Beauty International’s problem,

I gain a deeper understanding of the difficulties that every company might be facing in real life.

In here they highlighted the important role and responsibility of individual, group, and

organization behaviors in managing problem, emphasizing the effect of having diversity in

workplace, accepting, respecting, and adapting individual differences, work attitudes, working

together while still accountable, and motivation on organizational resilience.
