How do I convert kg to cft ?

For this I will explain with an example.

we know the Density of Cement is 1440kg/Cum = 40.81kg/Cft

Let's assume that you have 400kg of cement.

So cement (kg to Cft)= Cement Quantity/ Density of cement

= (400kg)/(1440/kg/Cum)

=0.27Cum (multiply by 35.28, becz it's in Cum)

So 400kg of cement = 9.52Cft

Similarly, we can fallow same procedure for different materials.

What is the estimation of steel & cement for 660 sq. ft slab
(excluding Staircase ) , 9 numbers 0f 9” x 10” column ?
Slab Size, 660Sft = 660/10.76 = 61.4Sqm

Column Size = 9″x10′ = 230mmx250mm

Floor Height =3m & thickness of Slab = 100mm (ASSUMING )

1.Material Required for Slab: -

So Volume of Slab = 61.4*0.1 = 6.14Cum

As a thumb rule minimum steel consumption for Slab is 70 to 80 kg/m3

So Total Steel required for 6.14 Cum = 6.14*70 = 430Kg

Assume M20 Grade of concrete

As per M20, Minimum cement consumption is 8 bags for Cum of concrete,

So, 8*6.14 = 49.12 Bags

2. Material Required for Columns: -

Volume of Single Column = 3*0.23*0.25 = 0.1725 Cum

So, Volume of 9 nos of Column = 0.1725*9 = 1.56 Cum

As a thumb rule minimum steel consumption for Column is 140 to 160 kg/m3

So, let’s take 150 kg/m3

So, 150*1.56 = 230 Kg

Assume M 25 Grade of concrete

As per M 25, Minimum cement consumption is 11 bags for Cum of concrete,

So, 11*1.56= 17.16 Bags

Summary of Materials for 660 Sft area (61.4 Sqm) (Slab Columns)

Steel = 430+230 = 660 Kg

Cement = 49.12+17.16 = 66.28 bags

The Above values are like minimum or approximate values this much you can expect,
but exact values you get based on drawings (BBS,Plans, elevations etc) only.

What is the quantity of steel, cement Sand & aggregate required

for 900 sq. ft of RCC?
First convert area in to Sqm i.e., 900/10.76 = 83.6 Sqm

Thickness of Slab is 125mm

As a thumb rule, for Slab the minimum Steel consumption is 70Kg/Cum

So Volume of concrete 83.6*0.125 = 10.45Cum

So Steel required for the above area is = 70*10.45 = 731 kg.

Assume Grade of concrete is M20 (1:1.5:3)

For M20 grade (1:1.5:3) as per mix design the quantity of material required is Cement
= 400kg/m3, Sand = 600 kg, Coarse aggregate = 1200kg

So Total Cement required for that concrete is = 400*10.45 = 4180Kg

= 4180/50 = 84Bags

Total Sand required for that concrete is = 600*10.45 = 6270Kg

And Total Coarse Aggregate required for that concrete is = 1200*10.45 = 12540Kg

Summary Material required for 1100 Sft of Roof Slab,

Steel = 0.73MT
Cement = 84 Bags

Sand = 6270 Kg

Coarse Aggregate : 12540Kg

How much steel is required in an RCC roof slab of 2000 sq. ft?
As a thumb rule, for Slab the minimum Steel consumption is 70Kg/Cum
Assume thickness of slab is 6″ (0.5ft)

So Volume of concrete is 2000*0.5= 1000 = 1000/35.28 = 28.35 Cum

So Steel required for the above area is = 70*28.35 = 1986 kg.

So approximately 2MT of steel required…

How many kg will 100 meters of reinforcement rods cover?

Depends on Diameter of the bar which you are using.

There is a simple formula for calculating the weight of the bar ie; (D)^2/162*L
Let us assume Día of Bar is 8mm
Weight of that bar for 100m length is {(8) ^2/162} ×100 = 39.5kg

What is the quantity of sand & cement required for wall with length of 22 feet & height
of 9.5 feet using 6-inch brick?
Area of Block work = 22*9.5 = 209 Sft = 209/10.76 = 19.4Sqm

(Thickness of Block work is 150mm.)

Standard size of the modular brick without mortar is 190(L) X 90(B) X 90(D) mm

Standard Size of a Brick with mortar is 200(L) X 100(B) X 100(D) mm (Mortar

Thickness 10mm)

So, First now we are going to find the volume of bricks with mortar thickness and
without mortar thickness. The difference will give you the quantity of cement mortar.

Case 1: Volume of Bricks with mortar

Volume of 1 brick with mortar = 200 X 100 X 100 ( 10 mm mortar thickness)

= 0.2 X 0.1 X 0.1 = 0.002 Cum

Total Volume of Brick work with mortar = 19.4*0.15 = 2.91 M3

Therefore, Number of bricks required = 2.91/0.002 = 1455 No.s

Case 2: Volume of Bricks without mortar

Volume of 1 brick without mortar = 0.19 X 0.09 X 0.09 = 0.00154 Cum

Volume of bricks without mortar = 1455 X 0.00154 = 2.24 Cum (m3)

Therefore,

Required amount of cement mortar = Volume of bricks with mortar – Volume of bricks
without mortar

= 2.91 – 2.24 = 0.67 Cum

Required amount of cement mortar = 0.67 Cum (m3) (Wet Condition)

(Note – The above volume is in a wet condition (after adding water). To find the dry
volume, we need to multiply 33 % as bulkiness of sand.)

So Dry volume of a mortar = 0.67 cum X 1.33 = 0.89 cum

Let us Assume mortar ratio is 1:6 (1 part Cement & 6 Part Sand = 7 Part)

Required Cement quantity in brickwork = (1/7) X 0.89 X 1440 = 183 Kg = 3.6 Bag

Required amount of Sand = 6/7 X 0.89 = 0.76 Cum (m3)

Therefore, for 22*9.5 feet wall, we need.

 1455 Numbers of bricks

 3.6 Bags of cement
 0.76 m3 of sand.

How many bags of 50 kg cement will be required to construct a 76 m by 76 m brick

wall?
Area of Block work = 76*76 = 5776 Sqm

(Assume 100mm thick brick work.)

Standard size of the modular brick without mortar is 190(L) X 90(B) X 90(D) mm

Standard Size of a Brick with mortar is 200(L) X 100(B) X 100(D) mm (Mortar Thickness
10mm)

So, first now we are going to find the volume of bricks with mortar thickness and
without mortar thickness. The difference will give you the quantity of cement mortar.

Case 1: Volume of Bricks with mortar

Volume of 1 brick with mortar = 200 X 100 X 100 (10 mm mortar thickness)

= 0.2 X 0.1 X 0.1 = 0.002 Cum

Total Volume of Brick work with mortar = 5776*0.1 = 577.6 M3(100mm Depth of brick)

Therefore, Number of bricks required = 577.6/0.002 = 288800 No.s

(0.1m is Depth of the brick with mortar, where 5776 is LXB of wall, so multiplication will
give u in volume)

Case 2: Volume of Bricks without mortar

Volume of 1 brick without mortar = 0.19 X 0.09 X 0.09 = 0.00154 Cum

Volume of bricks without mortar = 288800 X 0.00154 = 444.8Cum (m3)

Therefore,

Required amount of cement mortar = Volume of bricks with mortar – Volume of bricks
without mortar

= 577.6 – 444.8 = 132.8 Cum

Required amount of cement mortar = 132.8 Cum (m3) (Wet Condition)

(Note – The above volume is in a wet condition (after adding water). To find the dry
volume, we need to multiply 33 % as bulkiness of sand.)

So Dry volume of a mortar = 132.8 cum X 1.33 = 177 cum

Let us Assume mortar ratio is 1:6 (1 part Cement & 6 Part Sand = 7 Part)

Required Cement quantity in brickwork = (1/7) X 177 X 1440 = 36410Kg

= 36410/50 = 728 bags (50 Kg bag)

Required amount of Sand = 6/7 X 177 = 151.7 Cubic meter (m3)

Therefore, for 76*76 m compound wall, we need.

 288800 Numbers of bricks

 728 Bags of cement
 151.7 m3 of sand.

How much cement required for one square meter of plastering?

Let us assume mortar ratio is 1:4, and thickness of plaster is 12mm.
For 1m2, Volume of Plaster required is [ 1*1*(12/1000)] = 0.012m3

(0.012 m3, which includes both cement and sand)

So

Cement required = [1/(1+4)}*1.54*0.012 = 0.0036m3

= 0.0036*1440 = 5.2 kg (Density of cement = 1440kg/m3)

(due to bulkiness of sand and wastage 1.54 will be taken as a multiplying constant)

Sand required = (4/5)*0.012= 0.0096m3

Usually sand is measured in Cft, so

0.0096*35.28 = 0.33Cft

Cement = 5.2kg and Sand is 0.33Cft

How much would it cost to construct 800 sq ft area of RCC slab?

Let us assume thickness of slab is 125mm,

convert area in m2, ie 800/10.76 = 74.3m2

So total volume of concrete = 74.3*0.125 = 9.3m3

Assume M20 Grade concrete,

For M20 grade (1:1.5:3) as per mix design the quantity of material required is Cement
= 400kg/m3, , Sand = 600 kg, and Coarse aggregate = 1200kg

So for 9.3/m3

Cement = 9.3*400 = 3720kg =3720/50 = 74.4Bags

Sand = 600 kg, = 600*9.3 = 5580kg

Coarse aggregate = 1200*9.3 = 11160kg

and for a Steel, As a thumb rule minimum steel required is 75kg/m3 concrete.

So 75*9.3 = 700kg

Assume 1m3 of RMC = Rs. 5500 (Avg RMC ) (May change from place to place )

So for 9.3m3= 51,150Rs

for steel assume Rs. 40,000/tonne

So 0.7*40000 = Rs28,000

Total Cost = 51150+28000 = Rs.79,150

Assume Shuttering rate = Rs.45/Sft

So Shuttering amount = 45*800 = Rs.36,000

so total Cost = 79150+36000 =Rs 1,15,150

So amount needed for casting a slab of 800sft with 125mm thick

is Rs 115,150

General steel requirement for Different RCC members in

slab area is 400 square meter, thickness of the slab is 150 mm.

Concrete quantity required to cast this slab is 400*0.15 = 60 Cubic meter.

After calculating concrete quantity, you can remember these thumb rules just for
getting a basic idea of how much quantity of steel is required in those structural
members.

Steel quantity in a conventional slab (excluding its beams) will be around 60 to 65 Kg

per Cubic meter.

In beams it will be around 200 to 220 kg per cubic meter.

In columns it will be around 200 to 250 kg per cubic meter.

For raft footings it will be around 100 to 120 kg per cubic meter.

The miscellaneous thumb rules in construction: -

One Sqm = 10.763Sft
One Cum = 35.314 Cft
