Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 12 2

The lesson plan discusses teaching students about mycology. It defines mycology, describes the different types, and illustrates the different parts of mushrooms. Students will work in groups to identify mushroom parts in pictures and their functions based on what they learned.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 12

Grade & Section: Grade 12 Date: May 24, 2022

Time: 9:30am-10:30am

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Define what is Mycology
2. Describe the different type of Mycology
3. Illustrate the different part of the mushrooms using the image that has been given

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Mycology
Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK8125/
Materials: Image, laptop, pen, manila paper
Value Focus: Understanding what is Mycology

III. Procedure

Teachers Activity Pupil Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

2. Greetings

“Good Morning, class!” “Good Morning, ma’am.”

You may now take your seats.” “Thank you so much ma’am.”

3. Checking of Attendance

4. Motivation
Class what comes in your mind when you see

Student actively answers

the picture?

What do you think of our lesson for today?

Students are actively Identifying the image.

A. Activity

Instruction:

Now class, our activity for this day is called

Where do I Grow? You only need to choose
or any volunteer from the class. I only need 3
Students actively answer
students. I have only one question: Where do
you think mushrooms grow? Give me 3 places
or things that you think mushrooms grow.

B. Analysis

Let’s move on to our discussion proper.

This Morning we're gonna tackle Mycology

Do you have any idea what Mycology is?

Anything that comes to your mind when you
hear about the word Mycology?
No ma’am!
Let me hear your brilliant ideas
Very Good!
Students actively answer
Now Im going to discuss you what is
Mycology

Mycology is the study of fungi, their

relationships to each other and other
organisms, and the unique biochemistry which
sets them apart from other groups. Fungi are
eukaryotic organism which belong to their own
kingdom.

Teacher show an image of different parts

Student’s listening

Cap- the cap of the mushroom is the topmost

part and gives the fungi its umbrella-like
shape. It can be flat, conical or spherical and
have a wide range of textures and colors.

Gills-The gills are thin, paper-like structures

layered side by side that often hang from the
underside of the cap.

Spores-spore is like a seed in that it contains Student’s listening

all the genetic material required to grow new
mushrooms.

Ring-A ring of tissue is sometimes found on a

mushroom stem. It’s the remaining part of a
partial veil.

Stem-The stem or stipe supports the cap and

elevates it above the ground.

Volva- volva or universal veil is a layer of

tissue that protects the immature mushrooms
of some species as they grow out of the
ground.

Mycelium- is a web-like structure made up of Student’s listening

long hyphae fibers that are often white or
cream.

Hyphae- are the microscopic, thread-like

filaments or tubes that interconnect and grow
to form the web-like mycelium or body of a
fungus.

This includes such divisions as forensic

mycology, Ethnos Lichenology, and
lichenology among others.

Forensic mycology is the use of mycology in

criminal investigations. Mycology is used in
estimating times of death or events by using
known growth rates of fungi, in providing
trace evidence, and in locating corpses. It also
includes tracking mold growth in buildings,
the use of fungi in biological warfare, and the
use of psychotropic and toxic fungus varieties
as illicit drugs or causes of death.

Ethno Lichenology is the study of the

relationship between and people.

lichens
Lichens have and are being used for many

different purposes by human cultures across the

world. The most common human use of lichens

is for dye, but they have also been used for Student’s listening

medicine, food and other purposes.

Lichenology is the branch of mycology that studies the

lichens, symbiotic organisms made up of an intimate

symbiotic association of a microscopic alga (or a

cyanobacterium) with a filamentous fungus. Study of

lichens draws knowledge from several disciplines: Student’s listening

mycology, phycology, microbiology and botany.

C. Abstraction

Any questions? Clarification?

If there is no question I will be the

one to ask based on what I’ve discussed on
your understanding of mycology.

. Very Good!

Can someone from the class give the parts

of the mushroom?

Very good!

D. Application
Students will actively answer
Now class, I want you to Group yourselves
into 4 groups, each group should choose them
Team leader.

Direction: Each picture that has been given to

each group you should identify what part of
the mushroom it is and give its function based
on what you learn.

After that come to the front and discuss it.

IV. Evaluation

Based on objectives.

V. Assignment

Make a paragraph minimum of 100 words on

what you understand about mycology.
