5. Complexity
6. Coherence
7. Legibility
8. Linkage
➢ IMAGEABILITY 4

According to Kevin Lynch:

1- Vitality: the square has the things that

always made it vital
An example: The Tahrir Complex
building, which people always flock to it
,which makes it always active and vital
2- Sense: All the buildings around the
square are tall and huge , making it easy
for users to reach and know them from
a distance
3- Fitness: the square is a gathering point
for people
There is sets and landsqabe
4- Access: Tahrir Square is easy to reach
because it is located from the far west to
the east
Also close to the Nile Corniche and
Qasr El Nil Bridge
5- Control: the people who attend in the
square are the ones who determine the
place and access not the square
5

➢ ENCLOSURE

• Although the buildings surrounding

the square are tall buildings, we do
not feel contained within the square
because the streets between the
buildings are very wide and the
square is wide.
6

➢ HUMAN
SCALE
• The scale of the buildings are too
big
• Wide streets
➢ TRANSPARENCY 7

1. Transparency: the buildings

around the square don't have
complete transparency so we
don't see the indoor human
activity
2. The use of landscaping and
glass for the building creates
transparency
• The reflection of the glass
makes the view bigger

1 2
➢ COMPLEXITY 8

1. Mixing buildings in colors

2. Diversity builds heights
• The mix between: beige and
white in the buildings
• Diversity builds heights 1 2
• The combination of: yellow and
white in the lights gives a
complexity bleed
• Easy street access to the square

➢ COHERENCE
9

• The buildings surrounding Tahrir

1
Square have the following points:-
• -proportions of windows/bays/
doorways.
2
• -massing of building form.
• -surface material and finish. 5
• -shadow patterns.
• -building scale. 3
• -style of architecture.

2
➢ LEGIBILITY
10

• legibility in Tahrir Square is high due to its ease of access through

5 main roads, and it is comfortable for the eye and the scale of
the buildings is suitable for people, not too huge

➢ LINKAGE
11

• The square achieves connectivity 11

because it serves as a point to
bring the streets together It is
directly connected to Qasr El Nil
Bridge and October Bridge.

• From Tahrir Square, the
main streets are divided
into sub-streets
• The two streets

Shape
• Tahrir Square expresses a combination of the circular
