Mini Project on Geotechnical Engineering Design-I


Wollega University wants to build Multipurpose building for the college of Engineering to
compact the whole departments of engineering on one building for well organized service of
communities. The site exploration of the proposed site for the project is conducted by WU
consulting Engineers and the properties of the soil at the site, the general site condition and level
of ground table are summarized and tabulated below. The arrangement of the columns and
magnitude of loads are indicated on the diagram below.

Phase- One (10%)

A. Select at least three possible types of foundations and support your selection with
evidences.
Phase- Two (20%)

B. Proportion the selected foundation for bearing capacity and settlement requirements
C. Compute actual contact pressure and design the foundations structurally.
D. Provide design detail drawing.
