Safety Information
To the User of This Manual
The user of this manual is directed to read and carefully review the instructions, warnings and cautions contained herein prior to beginning installation or service activities.
While you may have previously installed or serviced equipment similar to that described in this manual, changes in design, manufacture or procedure may have occurred
which significantly affect the present installation or service.

Installation and Environment

Except for installations requiring certification by the manufacturer per federal standards, see that a radiation protection survey is made by a qualified expert in accordance
with NCRP 102, section 7, as revised or replaced in the future. Perform a survey after every change in equipment, workload, or operating conditions which might
significantly increase the probability of persons receiving more than the maximum permissible dose equivalent.

Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Mechanical-electrical Warning

All of the moveable assemblies and parts of this equipment should be operated with care and routinely inspected in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations
contained in the equipment manuals.
Only properly trained and qualified personnel should be permitted access to any internal parts. Live electrical terminals are deadly; be sure line disconnects are opened and
other appropriate precautions are taken before opening access doors, removing enclosure panels, or attaching accessories.
Do not under any circumstances, remove the flexible high tension cables from the x-ray tube housing or high tension generator and/or the access covers from the generator
until the main and auxiliary power supplies have been disconnected. Failure to comply with the above may result in serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those
in the area.

Electrical-grounding Instructions
The equipment must be grounded to an earth ground by a separate conductor. The neutral side of the line is not to be considered the earth ground. On equipment
provided with a line cord, the equipment must be connected to properly grounded, three-pin receptacle. Do not use a three-to-two pin adapter.

Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Radiation Warning

X-ray and Gamma-rays are dangerous to both operator and others in the vicinity unless established safe exposure procedures are strictly observed.
The useful and scattered beams can produce serious or fatal bodily injuries to any persons in the surrounding area if used by an unskilled operator. Adequate precautions
must always be taken to avoid exposure to the useful beam, as well as to leakage radiation from within the source housing or to scattered radiation resulting from the
passage of radiation through matter.
Those authorized to operate, participate in or supervise the operation of the equipment must be thoroughly familiar and comply completely with the current established
safe exposure factors and procedures described in publications, such as: Subchapter J of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, "Diagnostic X-ray Systems and Their
Major Components", and the national council on radiation protection (NCRP) no. 102, "Medical X-ray And Gamma-ray Protection For Energies Up To 10 Mev-
equipment Design and Use", as revised or replaced in the future.
Those responsible for planning of x-ray and gamma-ray equipment installations must be thoroughly familiar and comply completely with NCRP no. 49, "Structural
Shielding Design and Evaluation For Medical Of X-rays and Gamma-rays of Energies Up to 10 Mev", as revised and replaced in the future. Failure to observe these
warnings may cause serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those in the area.
Add additional safety information as needed

Network Installation and Configuration Overview

Network Installation and Configuration

NOTE This manual applies to the all Brilliance family CT scanners and Extended Brilliance Workspace
workstations.
The word System is used here to denote the Brilliance family CT scanners and Extended Brilliance
Workspace workstations. Any difference in procedure for CT scanners or EBW will be noted in the
manual.

Overview
The system workstation is fully compliant with DICOM 3.0 standard and enables comprehensive connectivity to
Philips scanners.
System communication with other stations is based on the DICOM 3.0 standard. This enables the system to
communicate with any DICOM-3 compliant products (including other vendors’ scanners, workstations and
hardcopy units). The system can send/retrieve images to/from other stations and other stations can retrieve/
send images from/to the system. The system can function both as a server and as a client. Images are
transferred in the DICOM-3 protocol, based on TCP/IP as a transport layer and on Ethernet as a data-link layer.
The communication is made through an Ethernet network meeting IEEE 802.3 specifications. The supported
media type is 10/100BaseT/1000.\

Network Installation and Configuration Network Configuration

Network Configuration
This chapter explains how to customize the network configuration of the system workstation for site-specific
requirements.
In Network Configuration you define all the devices and systems that are connected to the system workstation:
• Devices connected directly to the system (such as Local Folders, EOD Drive)
• Systems connected via the Ethernet network to the system (such as PACS/RIS, CT scanners, DICOM
compatible devices, etc.).
Perform Network Configuration by opening dialog boxes (Network, Node Configuration, and Device
Configuration dialog boxes) and entering the parameters that correspond to your system’s workstation
configuration.
This manual covers the following subjects:
• Network Configuration Terminology on page 3
• How to Use the Configuration Dialog Boxes on page 5
• System Name Setting on page 6
• Configuring TCP/IP on page 7
• The Export Function on page 32
Device Configuration on page 12 contains screen captures of typical dialog boxes to assist you in the
configuration procedure.
NOTE When connecting the system to the network, also configure all other systems on the network so that
they recognize the system workstation. For configuration instructions refer to the documentation
accompanying these devices.
When connecting the system to another DICOM compatible station (scanner/printer), you must provide the other
station with the Internet Address (IP) of the Host, AE Title, and the port number.
NOTE Our default port number is 104.

Network Installation and Configuration Network Configuration Terminology

Network Configuration Terminology

This section includes definitions of terminology relating to Network Configuration.

DICOM
Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. A standard defining image format and communication
protocol between medical imaging stations

Network Connection
TM TM
The system can be connected to Mx8000 IDT or Brilliance CT stations, CT scanners, and
DICOM-3 compliant scanners, workstations, printers and laser imagers through an Ethernet network.

Internet Address (IP)

All devices on the network have a unique Internet Address.
The format of the Internet Address is x. y. z. and w where x, y, z, and w are integers between 0 to 255 (e.g.
192.1.1.1). These 4 integers are divided into 2 fields:
• The first (left-most) field is called the network address and should be identical for all the nodes in the network
(unless routing is used).
• The second field is the node address and must be unique for each node in the network.

The format of the network and node addresses is determined by the following rule:
1 If x is between 0-127, the network is called a “Class A” network.
In this case, the network address consists only of x, and the node address consists of y.z.w.
2 If x is between 128-191, the network is called a “Class B” network.
In this case, the network address is x.y, and the node address is z.w.
3 If x is between 192-255, the network is called a “Class C” network. In this case, the network address is x.y.z,
and the node address is w.
This is the most common type of network.

Netmask
A custom netmask can be defined (a logical grouping of the systems in the network). However, the default
netmask should be used unless the network administrator at the site assigns a custom netmask.

Network Installation and Configuration Network Configuration Terminology

Port
The port is an endpoint on the node for a specific application. For example:
• File for http port: 80
• Default DICOM port: 104

Node
Each DICOM-3 compliant station in the network (Ethernet) is considered a node for Network Configuration
purposes.
The nodes fall into three categories:
TM
• The local Mx8000 IDT or Brilliance CT workstation to be configured
TM
• Remote Mx8000 IDT or Brilliance CT workstations connected to the local one
• Other DICOM-3 compliant scanners, workstations etc.
• PACS
• RIS
• Printer

Device
Each node can include one or more devices. A device can be used to import data (for example, a scanner which
produces images), to store and handle the data (for example, the local disk which stores images in PACS
storage), or to export data (for example, an export device which is used to export film images).
• Local hardware: EOD/CD/CDR
• DICOM item storage/Query ----
• Local Folder

AE Title
Each device has a unique logical address in DICOM communication. This logical address is called AE Title.

Network Installation and Configuration SiteManager

SiteManager

Overview
The SiteManager Server is an ethernet/modem based remote access server that provides terminal service and
IP routing over dial-up lines. Working in conjunction with Servecom and a centrally located server, the
SiteManager enables dial-up inter-networking with remote Philips equipment.
The SiteManager has a modem and an Ethernet card to start a PPP connection to the LAN. It contains a
CesarFTP utility for transferring important files to the local PC. It is also able to poll the scanners and record
important site information, store all diagnostics, view log files, transfer images to the local PC, and has an easy-
to-use interface to all diagnostic routines.
The SiteManager supports four main functions:
• FTP Utility—the local PC can transfer important files from/to the system, according to the user’s request.
• Error Log Viewer—views usplog and tamar.log files.
• DICOM Echo Test—enables the user to verify if a DICOM server is listening on a given port number, IP
address, and has a correct Application Entity title.
• Rapid Remote Image View (RRI)—transfers DICOM images from the system to the local PC. The user can
view images and image parameters, and configure window and level.
To connect to the system from the local PC, use the information provided in the following web site:
http://svcinfo.cle.ms.philips.com/sitemanager/mainpage/site.html.
NOTE The above functions can be used after configuring the SiteManager and the system for mutual
recognition (see Device Configuration on page 25).

Network Installation and Configuration The Export Function

The Export Function

General
The Export function enables the user to export images in DICOM format from the MxView exp archives. Images
can be exported to the MxView exp Hard Disk, floppy diskette, EOD cartridge or to a DICOM station (a station
that accepts the DICOM format).
The exported images can be stored in a special directory on the local disk, and then copied to any media, or to a
DICOM station through a network.
The copying procedure to a floppy or a DICOM station is performed by opening a cmd window, and not through
the Archive Manager (see Exporting Images to a Floppy, or to a DICOM Station on page 33).
Images can be exported directly to an EOD cartridge. Copying images to the EOD can be performed also
through the Archive Manager if the system is configured properly.

Creating an Export Device (Configuration)

To create an Export Device on the Hard Disk:
1 From the Configuration application click on the local node.
2 From the Add Device list, click on Export. The Device Configuration window opens.
3 In the Name field, type in the name for the Export device, or use the default value.
4 In the AE Title field, type in the Application Entity Title for the device, or use the default value.
5 In the Destination Directory field, type the directory where you want the images to be stored. It is
recommended to use the default directory: /usr/tmp/export.
For instructions on how to create a directory, refer to step 8 below.
6 From the Transfer Syntax list, choose the desired format.
For details, see Exporting Images from the Hard Disk to a Floppy or to a DICOM Station on page 33 and
Transfer Syntax on page 34.
7 Click OK several times to exit, and then confirm to reboot.
8 Create the destination folder as follows:
a Log on as root, and open the Windows Explorer.

Exporting Images to a Floppy, or to a DICOM Station

Exporting images is done in 2 steps:
1 Exporting the images to the hard disk.
2 Copying the images from the hard disk to a floppy or a DICOM station.

Exporting images to the Hard Disk

• From the Archive Manager:
Use copy and specify the Export Device as the destination.
• From any application other than Archive Manager:
Use Save and specify the Export Device as the destination.
The exported images are located in the destination directory. Files can be identified according to the Patient
Name. These files can be copied to a floppy or a DICOM station.

Exporting Images from the Hard Disk to a Floppy or to a DICOM Station

For copying images from the hard disk to a floppy or proceed to Copying Images from the Hard Disk to a Floppy
on page 33.
For copying images from the hard disk to a DICOM station, skip to Copying Images from the Hard Disk to a
DICOM Station on page 33.

Copying Images from the Hard Disk to a Floppy

5 When prompted for a User Name or Log on Name, type the name you received from the hospital Network
Administrator.
6 When prompted for a Password, type the Password you received from the hospital Network Administrator.
7 Copy each image you want to transfer by typing:
put <image name> <new image name> and pressing Enter.
(<new image name> is optional. Use it in case you want to change the file name.)
8 When you are done, quit FTP by typing: bye and pressing Enter.
9 After you have finished copying all images, you may delete the images from the export directory to free disk
space.

Transfer Syntax
When DICOM devices communicate, they agree on possible formats for image transfer. In particular, they agree
on whether the images are transferred in implicit or explicit Value Representation, and whether words are
encoded in Little or Big Endian. When accessing a floppy or an EOD cartridge, the format of the images has to
be pre-defined.
Choose the format for image transfer according to the system that will read the images from the EOD/
floppy. Get the format from the hospital Network Administrator.
The 3 following formats are available:
• Implicit VR/Little Endian (default format)
• Explicit VR/Little Endian
• Explicit VR/Big Endian

Network Installation and Configuration Network Testing

Network Testing
Network Tests include checking of TCP/IP Layer and DICOM interface. The tests performed are:
• Network software of the system.
• Build-in network hardware of the system.

Tests can be performed between:

• The system to another node/host (PC, MxView exp, other scanner, HIS/RIS, PACS) (see Image Transfer Test
between the System to MxView exp on page 37).
• The system to MxView/Mx8000 (see Image Transfer Test between the System to MxView exp on page 37).

Basic Test of the Network

The testing procedure is based on the ping utility. This utility sends packets from the tested MxViewexp to
another computer that is connected to the same network. The other computer returns every packet it receives to
the sender of the packet (in our test, the packets are sent from and returned to the MxViewexp).
The ping utility also displays every returned packet, thus enabling the user to see if the network is operating OK.

Testing
1 When the connection, TCP/IP addresses, and AE Titles are set up, log on as root.
2 In a shell window, type: ping <IP-address-of-the-other-host> and press Enter.
For instance, if the IP address of the other host is 192.132.141.211, type: ping 192.132.141.211
3 If everything is OK, lines like the following appear on the screen:
PING 192.132.141.211 (192.132.141.211): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.132.141.211: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=2 ms

5 If this is the case look for a network problem such as:

— Ethernet cable not properly connected to the transceiver of the system or to the switch.
— Ethernet cable damaged.
— IP address of the Mx8000 IDT or of the other computer not set properly.
— The Router and Mask addresses of the system or the other computer are not set properly.
— TCP/IP software not properly installed on the other computer or on the system.
6 If there is a problem with the way TCP/IP is installed or configured, use the following procedure to help
diagnose the problem.
a Use the Ipconfig command to verify that
the TCP/IP configuration has been
