Weaving, Intangible Cultural

Heritage of China
I used two
sheets to
create my
book, one
is a finished
publication,
the other half
is a handmade
and also the
original of the
publication,
I want to
present the
culture and
inheritance
of Chinese
crafts in two
different
ways.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Research

wickerwork
I divided the intangible cultural heritage weaving into several
categories for research, the first one is weaving, through the research
I know the evolution of the culture and history of bamboo weaving,
which makes it easier for me to compile an overview of bamboo
weaving in my finished book.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Straw fabric So I researched

grass weaving
to understand
the techniques
and weaving
methods as well
as the cultural
heritage of
grass weaving.
Grass weaving
is suitable
for weaving
mattresses,
straw shoes,
baskets, etc.,
because it is
softer so it is
very suitable for
these aspects,
and each type
of weaving has
a unique way of
using it.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Wickerwork

Then I began to research

willow weaving, I began
to notice the grain of the
weave, and realized that
no matter what kind of
weave it was, the grain
was very regular and
beautiful, and I began
to pay more attention to
the process and method
of weaving
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Woven coconut fiber

Then I researched the brown

weaving, this weaving is
a lot of people's childhood
memories, the use of rice
dumpling leaves craftsmen
can turn it into a variety of vivid
and lovely animals, but with
the development of science
and technology no longer
need such toys, the heritage
of fewer and fewer people,
and now the brown weaving is
more than just toys, but also
the culture of childhood!
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Rattan

Finally I researched rattan weaving, using rattan to weave

furniture, using the toughness and elasticity of the rattan to make
furniture strong and flexible and difficult to damage, but with the
disappearance of crafts, handmade furniture is very little. Finally I
researched rattan weaving, using rattan to weave furniture, using
the toughness and elasticity of the rattan to make furniture strong
and flexible and difficult to damage, but with the disappearance of
crafts, handmade furniture is very little.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

I found that all the weaving

patterns are regular, but after
researching the weaving
method, the weaving are
irregular weaving finally form
a regular pattern which is
amazing, although I do not
have the craft of weaving,
but I can use the painting to
understand more about the
process of the weaving method
and the various weaving
patterns, which is a sample
of the weaving of bamboo
weaving.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

I also made samples of the

next few types of weaving
to experience the process
of making grass weaving
and to understand the
texture of grass weaving
patterns, which allowed
me to appreciate the
weaving culture on a
deeper level.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Next is the
experience of
willow weaving,
soft willow
weaving items
texture like a
cloth, soft and at
the same time can
carry heavy loads,
the grain is also
clear and obvious,
in learning the
process of
weaving, the
same also has a
regular order of
patterns
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Brown weaving pattern is

more complex, as origami,
from the beginning of
the weaving method is
a three-dimensional
unfolding of the
interlocking, so that the
brown weaving of the toy
is more lifelike, nowadays
the development of
science and technology
has rarely appeared in
such superb toys!
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Learning rattan
weaving, let me be
more sure of the
method of weaving
and weaving
patterns between
the connection,
seems to be a strip
of rattan weaving,
in fact, like building
blocks layer by
layer accumulated
ring and ring, so
that the rattan
furniture every
detail is very strong,
I also learned from
the hand-painted
sample
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

I also hand-drew
other knitting
techniques to
understand how the
structure created
by the knitting
process relates to
the patterns, and
how these patterns
can even be used
elsewhere, such
as on posters,
decorative patterns,
and more!
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

So I put the weaving patterns together to

make a new pattern, for example, the 8
patterns on the left can be used in various
places, such as clothes, posters, bags,
decorations, carpets and so on, so that the
intangible cultural heritage of weaving is
known and learned in another way, and the
intangible cultural heritage of weaving is also
promoted again.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

I learned the technique of weaving, went through the basic

steps of weaving and formed a regular pattern, because
each strip of paper loops tightly, the final pattern is very
stable, I want to add this to the final cover, I also used three
pictures to weave a complete picture, this is the technique
of weaving.
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

I also learned about various

binding methods, staple
binding, wire binding, etc.,
and I ended up using wire
binding, which is more
handmade and historical
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Catalogs

I used two kinds of paper a kind of old

version of parchment a kind of biased age
feeling of kraft paper, these two kinds
of paper are very suitable for the use of
history and culture, there is a sense of
history and solemn feeling
Harry\2219312 GD5001:Book

Parchment is purely handmade

bamboo weaving culture is also to
let me more thoroughly understand
the weaving culture, kraft paper is a
finished product printed in order to let
more people understand and learn to
weave, so that this cultural heritage!
