Computing (Using computer)
❑ Mobile computing is an umbrella term used to describe
technologies that enable people to access network services
anyplace , anytime and anywhere.
❑ Mobile simply describes computing device that is not
restricted to a desktop.
❑ Taking a computer and all necessary files and software out
into the field.
❑ Being able to use a computing device even when being mobile and
therefore changing location , portability is one aspect of mobile
computing.
❑ A variety of wireless devices that has the mobility to allow people to
connect to the internet , providing wireless transmission to access data
and information from where ever location they may be.
❑ New technology growing up with mobile communication , internet ,
database , distributed computing.
❑ In recent years , distributed computer has become the norm , especially
after the advent of the internet.
❑ Today , technological advances are shaping a new computing
environment where the user is free from the need to work at a specific
location , and is even enabled to work while on the move.
❑ This new paradigm is often called MOBILE COMPUTING
.
WHAT IS MOBILE
❑ An electronic telecommunications device , often referred
to as a cellular phone or cellphone.
❑ Portable telephone device that does not require the use of
landlines.
❑ Instead connect to a wireless communications network
through radio wave or satellite transmissions.
❑ Mobile phone (also known as a cellular , cell phone and a
hand phone) is a phone which can received every
conversation from wave length by satellite & without any
cord . It can carry in hold world.
❑ That someone , something can move or be moved easily
and quickly from place from place to place.
❑ A mobile phone is a wireless handheld device that allows
users to make and receive calls.
WHAT IS COMPUTING
❑ Computing is any goal -oriented activity which benefits
from computers.
❑ Computing is the study of how computers and computer
systems work and how they are constructed and
programmed.
❑ Computers stand for : -
C : - Common
O : - Operating
M : - Machine
P : - Purposely
U :- used for
T :- Technological
E :- Educational
R :- Research
WHAT IS MOBILE COMPUTING
❑ Mobile computing is the technology that allows users to connect and transmit data,
audio/voice, and video from one device to another without being tethered to a
stationary area with cabling and wires.
❑ Users with portable computers still have network connections while they move.
❑ Many other names / overlapping computing paradigms : -
* Pervasive computing
* Ubiquitous computing
* Wireless computing
* Embedded computing
❑ Motivations : -
Availability of wireless network at reducing communication cost.
Extend the ability and usefulness of handheld devices.
❑ Goal : -
Access to information anywhere , anytime , anyway.
EXAMPLE OF MOBILE COMPUTING DEVICES
MOBILECOMPUTING ARCHITECTURE
❑ Cell phones
❑ Unsafe driving
❑ Lack of etiquette
❑ Security
❑ Rogue wireless networks
❑ Personal theft
❑ WEP easy to crack
❑ Bluetooth hacks
❑ GPS navigation
❑ Vehicle tracking for companies
FUTURE OF MOBILE COMPUTING
❑ Use of artificial
intelligence
❑ Integrated circuitry
-> compact size
❑ Increase in computer
processor speeds .
CONCLUSION
❑ Mobile computing is rapidly becoming popular , and user demand
for useful wireless applications is increasing.
❑ Mobile computing has severe limitations.
❑ However , it is far from impossible , and technology improves all the
time.
❑ Lots of challenges
❑ Some have (good) solutions , many others are still waiting to solved .
❑ Mobile computing is being adapted by users at a faster pace than
desktop computing and will comprise a bigger factor in the
workplace.
❑ Game – changing communication platforms (social media and
mobile computing) are very rapidly,
