EGCP-3 Firmware Update


Before you begin
This is a critical firmware update. Ensure that your laptop’s battery is fully charged, or that the power
adapter is in use. Also, ensure that the communication cable is securely connected. Any disruption of the
update may cause the EGCP-3 to fail.
Ensure that you have the following before starting the update.
• Communication cables (RS323 cable, null modem – not needed if vessel has DB9 upgrade

completed).
• Woodward software installed on your field service laptop.
• SOS Servlink OPC Server
• EGCP-3 Firmware File

Procedure
1. In device manager, check that the communication port that the communication cable is
connected to is valid.

2. Check that Servlink Server is running, then launch SOS Servlink OPC server.

3. In the Connect Servlink to Control dialog box that appears, select the active com port.
Then, click the Connect Serial button.

4. The SOS ServLink OPC Server window appears and the software automatically attempts a
connection. The status column in the window shows the current status.
If this is the first time an EGCP-3 update is performed, the status shows “Caching symbol table”.
The software continues loading configuration files.

5. When a connection is successfully established, the status shows Connected at [speed in bps].

6. In the current window click your connected device.

7. Click Session from the menu bar, and select Load Application.

8. A dialog box appears, asking if the device can be shut down. Click OK.

9. In the Select Application Script File dialog box that appears, browse to EGCP3 Firmware, then
select the firmware version.
Click the Open button.

10. The SOS ServLink OPC Server window shows a connection attempt, then a Loading Application
status should appear.

11. When you see a message that reports that the application has loaded, click the OK button.

12. Close the window. Firmware update is complete.
