The document provides information about reflection skills, teamwork, and considering different perspectives in the context of a Global Perspectives course. It defines reflection as deeply considering something and distinguishes it from evaluation. Reflective learners can encourage feedback, identify their strengths and areas for development, and explain how they will improve. Teamwork involves working together towards a shared goal, combining individual strengths, and overcoming challenges. When considering perspectives, it is important to consider personal, national, and global views on an issue. Topic 4: Reflection

What is Reflection?

Reflection is to consider and think deeply about something.

Difference between Reflection and Evaluation

Evaluation in GP is to explore the reliability of information sources, considering

their strength and limitations according to audience and purpose while
reflection focuses on own learning and perspective.

Reflective learners are able to:

1. Encourage feedback and respond positively to praise and criticism.

2. Think about how they are learning when completing learning activities e.g.
they might learn best by discussing with others.
3. Can identify their personal strengths and explain these to others.
4. Can identify and areas they need to develop e.g listening or research
skills.
5. Explain how they are going to improve or develop a skilss e.g improving
reflective skills by asking themselves how they learn best.

What is Teamwork?

Teamwork is when a group of people work together as a whole, towards a shared

goal/ outcome, with a positive working atmosphere.

Effective teamwork relies on the combination of individual strengths brought to

the team.

NB: Working as a team is different from working in a team. To work as a team,

you need to work with a group of people to achieve a shared goal or outcome in
an effective way.

Task

• Attempt Main activity on CLS Pg. 143

• Outline 5 benefits of teamwork.
• Outline 5 challenges of teamwork.

2
• Outline 5 ways how you might overcome possible challenges that might come
up as you work in your teams.

Personal reflection on team project.

1. When reflecting on the benefits of teamwork, think about what you

personally gain from working with a team.
2. When reflecting on the challenges of team work, think about what you and
others might not like about working with a team.
3. A personal strength or quality is something you are good at.
4. A limitation or weakness is usually something that is lacking or not done very
well.
5. An area of development is something you need to improve on.
6. Always take notes about any information that influences your own opinion
about a topic as this will be useful when reflecting on your personal
perspective.
7. The ideas and experiences of others all influence your own personal
perspective.
8. You can change your personal perspective as a result of research and
exploring different perspectives on a topic or issue.

Considering different perspectives

1. A personal perspective is the view that someone has on an issue after

exploring different perspectives and reflecting on the causes and
consequences on an issue.
2. A national perspective is the view that a particular country has on an issue.
This is explained by the laws, policies and /or speeched made by politicians
of that country that might be supported by other groups within that
country.
3. A global perspective is a view on an issue that either has a global influence or
takes account of the nature of the issue globally.

3
Reflecting on a suitable Course of Action

A Course of action is a plan or method for achieving a specific aim or goal. This
might involve producing an outcome like a video, leaflet, brochure or
presentation.

A course of action might also be an event like a bake sale to raise money for a
particular cause.

When considering a suitable course of action, you should think of the following
questions:

1. Is the course of action specific? Does it relate to the issue and ‘what’
exactly are we trying to achieve?
2. Is the course of action measurable? How will we know if it is successful?
3. Is it achievable? Can we do it within the given time? Can we do it with th
resources we have?
4. Is it realistic? Is it practical?
5. Is it time-bound? Do we have enough time?
