Right Triangle Similarity Theorem

The lesson plan outlines a mathematics lesson on the right triangle similarity theorem, including recognizing parts of a right triangle, explaining the geometric means theorem, and applying the concept to real-world situations. Students will participate in an activity to identify triangle parts, analyze sample problems using the altitude and leg rules, and demonstrate their understanding through an evaluation. The goal is for students to understand and solve problems involving right triangle similarity.

III. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

Everyone please stand up and let us

pray.

Our Almighty God,

Give me added peace, subtract anything in

me not pleasing to you, take on my gift to
the next power and divide the sea for me to
walk into your promise.

Amen
2. Greetings

Good morning, class!

Before you take your seat:

Clap once, clap twice, clap thrice

Good morning, Sir!
Eyes on me, are you with me?

Sit down, silently.

When I ask you. You will say, “Yes,

Sir! St. (Section), is ready to listen.” (The students will clap)

Are you ready to listen?

Yes, Sir!

Yes, Sir! St. (Section), is ready to listen.

3. Checking of Attendance

For our attendance, secretary of the

class is there any absentees for
today?

Very good, class! Because of that all of

you will receive a one-point chip.
There is no absentee for today, Sir!

4. Review

As a review, what is the SSS Similarity

Theorem?

SSS Similarity Theorem

Very good! It is good that you can still
recall our previous discussion. Two triangles are similar if the
corresponding sides of two triangles are
proportion.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation

Before we start, let’s stretch first our

bodies by dancing, “The Banana
Dance”

(The teacher will demonstrate the

dance)
1. Peel Banana (2x)

2. Cut Banana (2x)

3. Eat Banana (2x)

4. Digest Banana (2x)

5. Out Banana (2x)

(The students will dance)

2. Activity

Let’s start by having an activity

entitled, “RIGHT Gibberish: RIGHT
Part”

Mechanics:

1. The teacher will show a picture of

triangle.

2. The students must identify the parts

of the given triangle.

3. The student who will volunteer and

get all the correct answer will receive a
chip.

Given:

Clue:

1. Lung-Gear-Leg = _____

2. She-Your-Tear-Leg = _____

3. High-Pou-Tee-Nose = _____

4. All-Tee-Tuned = _____

I will give you 1 minute to complete the

parts.

(Timer Video Presentation)

Times up! What is your answer?

Very good, class!

(The students will do the activity)

Answer:

1. Longer Leg

2. Shorter Leg

3. Hypotenuse

4. Altitude

3. Analysis

a. Based on the activity, what type of

triangle does we have?

Right Triangle is a triangle with one right

b. What are the parts of the triangle?
angle.

The parts of the right triangle are:

From that, we will be able to
understand our topic which is the 1. Longer Leg
Right Triangle Similarity Theorem.
2. Shorter Leg
Altogether, please read.
3. Hypotenuse

4. Altitude

Take a look at this picture.

What is the name of the given Right Triangle Similarity Theorem: If the
triangle? altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a
What is the altitude? right triangle, then the two triangles formed
are similar to the original triangle and to
What are the right triangles being each other.
formed after having the altitude?

What is the similarity correspondence

if you are going to focus on Right
Triangle Similarity Theorem?

Since we already familiar with the

parts of the given right triangle. Let’s
proceed with the Geometric Means
Theorem.

I want you to take note because after

that we will be answering questions.

The ∆ACB

The altitude of the given triangle is CD.

(The teacher will play a video)

What is Geometric Means Theorem?

The ∆ADC and ∆CDB

What is the Altitude Rule?

∆ACB ~ ∆ADC ~ ∆CDB

What is the Leg Rule?

Geometric Means Theorem: In a right
triangle, the altitude from the right angle to
the hypotenuse divides the hypotenuse in
two segments.

Altitude Rule: The length of the altitude is

the geometric mean of the lengths of the
two segments.

Leg Rule: The length of each leg of the

right triangles is the geometric mean of the
lengths of the hypotenuse and the segment
of the hypotenuse adjacent to the leg.

4. Abstraction

Let’s strengthen your knowledge.

Refer to the diagram, identify the
proportion applying the:
a. Altitude Rule
b. Leg Rule (for shorter leg and longer
leg)

I will call students to answer.

(The teacher will call at least three (3)
students)

Very good, class! With that I have a

question to you.
Answer Key:

UE TE
1. Altitude Rule: =
CE UE

UC CT
2. Leg Rule: = (Shorter Leg)
CE UC

UT TC
= (Larger Leg)
TE UT

5. Application

As student, how do you budget your

money?

Do you think by budgeting you were (Answer may vary)

able to equally divide your money?

Yes, Sir!

Imagine that the budgeting is the

altitude that is being drawn from a
larger triangle. From that budgeting
you were able to assess what should
be saved and used for expenses. And
with this we can be able to ensure that
we have a balance or equal
distribution of our money.

6. Evaluation

Now, kindly get ¼ sheet of paper and

let’s see if you really understand our
discussion today.

diagram. Write the letter of the correct
answer in your answer sheet.
1. What is the altitude of our given
triangle?
A. PR
B. SR
C. QS

2. What is the proportion formed using

the Altitude Rule?
SQ RQ
A. =
PQ SQ
SQ SR

3. What is the hypotenuse of the

original triangle?

C. PR

4. What is the proportion formed using

the Leg Rule (for shorter leg)?
PS PQ
