The DESIGO PX KNX Tool V5.1 is an integration tool that helps to integrate EIB
third party and RXB room controllers. The tool helps to provide an input to the
XWP containing the IO-Addresses that links the DESIGO data points to the EIB
Group Objects.
The ETS delivers the project input to the DESIGO PX KNX tool. Additionally an XML
file is also taken as input which describes the RXB devices. As an output, an XML
file is generated for the download to the PX controller. A data point list with the
corresponding DESIGO data points and their addresses is used as input for DTS.

The following steps explain the procedure to integrate the ETS V4 data into XWP
through DESIGO PX KNX tool.
12 / 28
Prerequisites Project is created in ETS V4 with two or three level group address style.
Topology is created by adding:
Area> Line > Devices
Area> Line > Group addresses
Assign group addresses to the communication objects of devices.
Note: ETS V4 supports free level which is not supported by DESIGO PX KNX tool.
The .knxproj file is a compressed file that consists of many inter-related XML files.
These XML files contain the Device and group addresses information along with
other ETS V4 project information.
The .knxproj file exported from ETS4 should be converted in DESIGO PX KNX
Procedure for ETS V4
tool. Single .knxproj file is converted to at the time of conversion.
Step Action
1 Select Tools > Convert ETS V4….
2 Browse the .knxproj file using the ETS 4 project input box.
13 / 28
4 In the ETS Project Description dialog box, enter the project name,
project number and project version for improved traceability of the
project extensions. Click OK to confirm the action.
5 You will be prompted –“Shall the project be opened in PX KNX?”
• Yes: The project is opened.
• No: The dialog box to open the project is closed. You need to reopen
the project.
Note: The output file is converted to the .csv format. This file is
exported to the location where the PX project is saved.
6 Save the project.
Procedure for ETS V3 The files created in ETS3 can be imported and converted. In this process, the two
.csv files are converted to one xml file.
Step Action
1 Select Tools > Convert ETS V3.
2 Browse the devices file (ProjectXY...DEV.csv) and the group file
(ProjectXY...GRP.csv) using the input box.
4 In the ETS Project Description dialog box, enter the project name,
project number and project version for improved traceability of the
project extensions.
5 Click OK to confirm the action or Cancel to close the dialog box.
Save the project. See Note at the bottom.
Note: The procedure is same for ETS V2 export. The only difference is the files
that are imported are .txt files.

3 For the objects that are not considered central while binding with the
functions "AutoBind+CentralGroups" or "AutoBind" and then
"+CentralGroups" are displayed on the Central Group Address logs tab
15 / 28
--
-> PX Synchronization dialog box opens.
2 Enter project name, project number and project version for improved
traceability for project extensions. No restrictions apply to the entries.
Notes on Step 2 The name of the folder in the right pane changes only after saving the PX project.
Procedure 1 Select File > Save (first time) or File > Save As.
---> Save as dialog box opens.

folder:
– ProjectXY..._PX_01.csv
– ProjectXY..._PX_01.log
– ProjectXY..._PX_01_add.xml
– ProjectXY..._PX_01_h_def.csv
Refer Chapter 1.5 Agreement on files and directories/folders
Purpose
The DESIGO PX KNX Tool interface has two panes, in which the bindings are
processed.
– The left pane contains the PX KNX information from the ETS.
16 / 28
Notes • Master room controllers are mapped by two discipline I/O blocks on the
DESIGO automation level:
– Block SHARED for scheduler program functions and monitoring.
– Block HVACFULL for HVAC functions.
• Slave room controllers are also bound to a SHARED and HVACFULL block in
the DESIGO PX KNX tool. No separate blocks are created in the CFC.
These bindings allow for using both the SHARED block of the master and the
supply blocks (ASU, WSU).
Each RXB controller (if used as a master controller) is mapped in the DESIGO
automation level by means of two Discipline I/Os:
• The "Shared Discipline I/O" (for time scheduling and monitoring)
• The "HVAC Discipline I/O (for HVAC functions).
The bindings to the SHARED (S) and HVACFUL (H) blocks are displayed after the
devices.
17 / 28
Principle Bindings for each individual system controller must be carried out separately and
saved each as a separate PX project, if an ETS project consists of multiple PX
KNX.
The bindings to SHARED (S) and HVAC (H) are displayed after the first
device.
7 Proceed in the same manner for all other room controllers.
8 Select File > Save As.
---> Save as dialog box opens.
Note: You must select another file name for each PX KNX.
18 / 28
Note The functions Import to Excel and Export from Excel are available to modify all
settings for multiple PX objects.
Note The functions Import to Excel and Export from Excel are available to modify all
settings for multiple PX objects.
19 / 28
Purpose Standard settings apply to all subsequent bindings of group addresses from third-
party devices and free I/O data points of RXB room controllers.
Notes • Special polling group: 0/10 (no read/write) means only read/write when an
impulse is triggered on the system controller.
Setting in block BO: Switch kind (SwiKind) = switch.
This prevents a value set at the field level from being overwritten by the static
value from the system controller.
• Priority: This is the priority used to write to the KNX bus. This should be set to
low if possible.
• You may also determine which attributes are used as a description and
whether the group address number is used as an operator designation.
Purpose Group addresses to integrate third-party devices and free I/O data points of RXB
room controllers are assigned to pins from standard I/O blocks. You can generate
bindings for the following types:
• Automatic: All addresses for a main or intermediate group, using default
settings.
• Automatic: Multiple selection of addresses using default settings.
• Manual: Individual addresses where settings are made directly.
20 / 28
Automatically bind The following default settings are used for bindings.
multiple selection
Step Action
1 Select Group Address view
2 Select a main or intermediate group in the left pane:
Principle Bindings for each individual system controller must be carried out separately and
saved each as a separate PX project, if an ETS project consists of multiple PX
KNX.
21 / 28
In the event you accidentally create a binding, you must delete the binding prior to
creating new bindings:
Step Task
1 Select the communications object to be deleted in the right pane:
Note You can also press the < DEL > button if the binding you want to delete is selected
in the right main pane (communication object or group address).
Use only for third-party This function applies only to third-party objects. It allows for external
objects adjustment of data created.
Purpose The DESIGO PX KNX tool allows for exporting the relevant data in a simple Excel
file in *.csv format. This file then allows you to adjust attributes such as polling
group, flags, priority, hierarchy, or to delete objects.
The file is then reimported and you can continue to work normally.
22 / 28
Purpose The DESIGO PX KNX tool helps create the hierarchy for the XWP project, and the
PX KNX objects are assigned to the hierarchy levels.
4 Assign the PX objects to the hierarchy levels using drag and drop:
5 Click OK to save the hierarchy level or Cancel to close the window. Click
Delete to delete the existing level.
23 / 28
You can search the group addresses in the DESIGO PX KNX tool.
Go to Tools > Search.
---> The Search dialog box opens.
Notes – To start searching in one of the two main windows, activate the topmost
hierarchy in this window.
– Group names are case-sensitive.
– If you keep entry fields empty, this means “*”.
Use Compare ETS Projects option to easily identify changes between two project
versions made in ETS.
This function is particularly useful for third-party devices and for free I/O data
points.
Example: Project file ProjectXY_2_ETS.xml is open. You want to find out what changes were
made compared to ProjectXY_1_ETS.xml:
• Select Tools > Compare ETS.
• In the Open… dialog box, select file ProjectXY_1_ETS.xml.
Result The Changes to... dialog box shows the changes in the devices and addresses
pane:
