IGCSE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES

Global Perspectives

Revision: What do we learn in Global Perspectives?

• Develop an analytical knowledge of global issues and their causes, consequences and
possible courses of action.
• Work independently as well as part of a team.
• Consider important issues from personal, local and/or national and global
perspectives and understand the links between them.
• Critically assess the information available to us and support judgements with lines of
reasoning.
• Communicate and empathize with the needs and rights of others.
• Develop curiosity.

How do we do that?

• Use our own interests in class.

• Carry out debates.
• Investigate.
• Listen to other people.

What are our goals?

• To become more confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged and

equipped for success in the modern world.
• To become independent and empowered to take our place in society.

Remember!

Information is all around us – on television, radio and computers. We constantly use

information in our written or spoken work and in interactions with all the people in our lives. It is
important to think about how you use the information.

What is a reasoning?
What is claiming?

Activity:

Define the following terms.

1) Empathy
2) Critical thinking

Answer:

How are your definitions different from your classmates’ definitions?

How are they similar?
What have you learnt?

Remember:

Our views are influenced by many people, including our parents, friends
and people we admire. A global perspective asks you to think beyond
yourself, your family, your school and your country or the country you are
living in.

IGCSE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES
Thinking about a global perspective

Often, a global issue or problem demands a global solution. It would not be possible to solve
the global problem of climate change with a local solution, even though local courses of action
might be taken to help towards a global solution. For the problem of climate change, for example,
a local course of action might be a poster campaign aimed at businesses, encouraging them to
reduce the amount of fossil fuels they are using.
Can you think of more examples?
